You are looking at over 20 years of experience in language and writing. Here is some background about who I am: Born in Yerevan, Armenia, 1990; Attended Kinder in Moscow, Russia; Attended Elementary in Sofia, Bulgaria; Moved to the states since Middle and High. I am a determined, strong-willed human whose focal aim is to learn and spread learning. Throughout my non-work life, Martial Arts and exercise allowed me to make great progress in personal areas of discipline and health. My hobbies include making and listening to hip-hop and electronic, programming using Python, and playing games with my friends.
What I can help you with includes but is not limited to Essays, Creative Writing, School-related English, and other similar topics. Whether you need proofreading, editing, getting started, finishing, or simply receiving feedback and critic, I can help you. My tutoring technique is based on forming methods that will allow the student to continue figuring things out using these methods when I am not there. Instead of simply solving one problem, I try to create a way to solve all problems of the same type. Approach is key and the way the student approaches his or her work is what comes first.
My work experience includes teaching Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors in a Private High School as a full-time English and College Writing teacher for a year and a half. Tutoring has also been a constant part of my work before, during, and after my employment as a teacher. You are looking at over 20 years of experience in language and writing. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I taught Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors in High School for a little under two years. Throughout that time, I realized that study skills are the foundation of learning. My focus became to develop methods of study in order to increase efficiency in learning. The primary aspect of any method of study involves a student's approach towards his or her time spent doing work. I think that tutoring in the area of "Study Skills" will be the best place to advance students' approach towards learning.
Specifics about these methods include the following: evaluating the students' capabilities and limitations starting from session one; asking the student to regurgitate certain information; asking the student to explain what was just read or said in their own words; asking the student what they would do in certain situations before providing answers; allowing the student to attempt solving a problem on their own; making sure the student is solid on existing material before moving to the next level; gauging students' progression to adjust for learning pace; relating students' assignments and subjects to real-life problems and ideas; having a discussion as opposed to a lecture in order to analyze concepts as a team.
The steps listed will help the student to study on their own.
