It may seem strange to begin with a statistic, but I trust you will agree it's not wholly inappropriate. During the 2009-2010 school year, my 11 AP Chemistry students had a 100% pass rate with the following score distribution: Seven of them scored a 5, three scored a 4, and one scored a 3. The high scores are greater than three times the national average. What makes this even more impressive is that I only saw my students an average of 2.5 times per week (2 days one week, 3 days the next, alternating).
I was trained as a Classicist, a Chemist, and a Mathematician. I have enjoyed tremendous success as a teacher and tutor of Mathematics, Science and Languages, but what I am proudest of is the comfort and trust that I have managed to engender among my students. My students are relaxed around me, and when they are relaxed, they can learn.
I am happy to discuss any and every aspect of my tutoring. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have. Raffi helped our son improve in AP Chemistry significantly, from a C in the class just six weeks ago to a solid A. Raffi's tutoring skills are amazing, he is extremely patient, understands how to work with an adolescent, and is knowledgeable about standardized testing and college choices, we received excellent advice. The tutoring sessions were truly enjoyable! My son's increased level of confidence positively affected several other school subjects.
My daughter said that Raffi was the best math tutor she's ever had, She is taking AP Math Analysis (Pre-Calculus) as a sophomore, and this is the first year that it's become clear she needs to do more than just finish her homework. I believe that Raffi has the intellect and the infectious enthusiasm to help my daughter become more motivated to realize her potential and see math as a challenge she wants to take on and conquer! Thank you, Raffi.
A great tutor. We went over the test materials a night before the exam and he gave me great tricks and helped me understand the material easily and quickly!
We went over many topics such as Newman projections, Mechanisms involving halogens and how to differentiate between Cis- and Trans-. He answered ALL of my questions, which made me feel very comfortable on the materials we covered. I definitely will have another tutoring session with him again.
Raffi was wonderful! He really made organic chemistry make sense and was very patient! Thank you so much! Now I definitely feel more confident about the course.
Raffi is tutoring my son in Algebra II. He is extremely knowledgeable and has helped my son tremendously. He is extremely patient and explains the subject clearly and effectively. My son really enjoys his sessions with him.
Thank you tutor Raffi, you are a 5 stars tutor. My daughter has been doing very well in her AP Chemistry AB since you became her tutor.
The class was very much detailed and efficient, not to mention kind and thorough with what he does. My son got a good score at Ap chem exam and school for his help.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My background in Mathematics is quite deep and extensive, and Differential Equations has always held a strange fascination for me among the Mathematical sub-disciplines. Where Linear Algebra enables one to start seeing the deep connections that exist among mathematical structures themselves, Differential Equations enables one to start seeing the deep connection between mathematics and the operation of the real world. In other words, one begins to finally understand, fundamentally, why the natural world is described mathematically, and not some other way. The techniques of both Calculus and Linear Algebra are brought to bear on problems of dynamics -- that is how things move and change with respect to one another. I matriculated into the Doctoral Program in Mathematics at University of Illinois. My coursework includes the following: Calculus, Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Partial Differential Equations, Analysis on the Real Line, Analysis in n-Space, Complex Analysis, Abstract Algebra (Groups, Rings, Fields, Galois Theory), General/Algebraic Topology, Measure and Integration Theory.
My first degree was in Classics, with an emphasis in Greek. My command of Ancient Greek is complete. Authors that I have read include Plato, Herodotus, Homer, Lysias, Demosthenes, Sophocles, Euripides, New Testament, Lucian, and selections of others.
Linear Algebra: My background in Mathematics is quite deep and extensive, and Linear Algebra happens to be my favorite of the sub-disciplines. It is where the true beauty of Mathematics begins to be apparent, and where one can finally see the deep connections that exist among mathematical structures. I matriculated into the Doctoral Program in Mathematics at University of Illinois. If interested, my coursework includes the following: Calculus, Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Partial Differential Equations, Analysis on the Real Line, Analysis in n-Space, Complex Analysis, Abstract Algebra (Groups, Rings, further Theoretical Linear Algebra), General/Algebraic Topology.
Organic Chemistry: I was trained as a Chemist at UC Irvine, and Organic was my area of specialization. I have also done research in Organic Synthesis. I absolutely love Organic Chemistry, and having the opportunity to teach and tutor it is always an extra special pleasure. Coursework, if interested, includes Organic, Advanced Organic, Advanced Organic Synthesis Lab, Research in Synthetic Organic, Medicinal Chemistry.
