Welcome to my Tutoring page! My name is Naomi and I specialize in teaching Japanese. I am a native speaker of Japanese and English and I have over ten years of experience teaching students of all ages and levels in groups, private lessons, and in universities. I am a highly motivated, creative and versatile instructor and I work with you to create the best curriculum to meet your individual needs.
I was born and raised in Northern Japan, where I attended Japanese schools, until I came to the United States for college and graduate school. I was raised in a bilingual environment, where my siblings and I were immersed in Japanese at school, and our English-teacher mother tutored us in English at home. Having come from such a background myself, Japanese bilingual education is another one of my specialties.
I offer lessons in:
formal/casual Japanese conversation
reading and writing
and more, customized to the student’s specific needs.
Do you need help with your Japanese studies at school?
Are you a Japanese family that needs a tutor to keep your kids up-to-date with their Japanese skills?
Do you want your child to become bilingual?
Do you just want to learn Japanese?
Beginners are welcome!
Please do not hesitate to contact me regarding any questions you may have.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
