Everyone can learn. I think it is important to find out what method of learning that works best for each individual. From my experience of working with pre-teens, teens and adults, I have used various exercises and educational games to determine what method of support will be best. Some people are more visual and can learn and express themselves through art, drawing, the printed word, etc., while others may be more auditory and learn quicker using their voice or music and other sounds. Also, there are other ways of learning for the individual who expresses best via physical action like dance, gesturing, posturing, etc. and still others learn from concrete things, real things and the abstract and symbolism have no meaning in this individuals learning pattern. Whatever the case may be, we can determine what best suits you for learning and then proceed in making you a dynamic successful student who will develop the knowledge and skills necessary for achieving your individual goals.
I am a graduate of New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and have a degree in Theatre. I have successfully tutored both children and adults in the NYC area, including ESL students via the HEOP program at Long Island University. I currently reside in Los Angeles. Everyone can learn. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a degree in Theatre and complete formal training in Musical Theatre, with a concentration in drama, movement (dance) and voice (singing & vocal technique - ie; edith skinner). I taught formal theatre workshops for approximately 4 years via the NYC Library afterschool program. Additionally, I have taught similiar workshops in Los Angeles, via the LA Bridges at Audobon program. I am most effective with pre-teens & teenagers but would be willing to work with younger children for a specific school assignment/project or community project.
