About David

I worked in the high-tech industry for 25 years when I found myself out of work due to the dot.com bust. Rather than sulk about my misfortune, I enrolled at the local community college and the University of Phoenix. In three years time I earned an AS in computer programming, an AS in programming for the internet, and a BS in information technology.

I returned to the high-tech industry as a technical writer for a large semiconductor firm only to find myself laid-off after five years. Taking the time I now had available, I returned to the local community college and the University of Phoenix. After four years time, I earned an AS in business computer applications, an AA in liberal arts-computer science and information systems, an AA in communication studies, and an MBA.

While taking my second math course (Intermediate Algebra) at the local community college, I was asked to become a tutor. I found the experience to be rewarding as students learned from my teachings. I have tutored in the Math Lab, classroom, and the Tutoring Center. Each area brings its own challenges and rewards. I look forward to the challenges each student presents and what I will need to do to conquer the challenges.

I have tutored at the community college level for almost three years and will be continuing when the fall semester begins in August.

I am an easy-going individual who finds humor and laughter to be lauded in my daily life. I try to bring this light-heartedness to my tutoring as a means to easing the anxieties that many have where math is concerned.

Lastly, I am quite patient and persistent when developing an idea, formula, or equation. In short, I do give up until the material under discussion is understood by the student/tutee.

For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
