Hope has been tutoring my 12-year-old son in history, literature, and Spanish. She is patient, knowledgeable, and responsible. My son enjoys working with her in all subjects weekly.
This review is long over due - Hope has been tutoring my 4th grader with Spanish - he is currently attending a Dual Immersion program and has needed some extra help that his parents cannot give him. Hope is an excellent tutor and knows her stuff!!!! My son is quite shy and was not on board with our idea of hiring a tutor but after his first session with her all his hesitation was pushed aside as Hope is patient, attentive and very personable ...excellent with children!
We have tremendous gratitude for the skills, patience and perseverance that Hope brought to the study of Spanish. She worked well with both our sons. Her ability to adapt to different learning styles was an added bonus. Hope was flexible in selecting teaching techniques that held the students attention.
Hope has been tutoring my daughter who is Junior at a private high school for few months now. Overall, she has exceeded my expectation. Hope is a motivator and knows how to encourage my daughter to excel in her Spanish course. Hope provides a written summary at the end of each session, flexible with scheduling and always on-time. We intend to seek her help in other subject areas such as History. In a nutshell, I wish we know of her services sooner and I would highly recommend her to any student.
There are a few characteristics that make up a great teacher/tutor:
Respect for students-Hope makes it easy for my son to express and be himself. She creates a welcoming learning environment.
Warm, accessible, enthusiastic and caring- Hope is approachable, not only to my son, but to my daughter, husband and I. Great teachers possess good listening skills and take time out of their way-too-busy schedules for anyone who needs them.
Sets high expectations- Hope realizes that the expectations she has for my son greatly affect his achievement; she knows that my son will give as much or as little as is expected of him. My son has shown great improvement in his Spanish class. He is more confident and speaks more.
Her own love of learning- Hope inspires my son with her passion for education and for the course material.
Maintains professionalism-From personal appearance to organizational skills, communication and preparedness for each day. She is exemplary.
While teaching is a gift that seems to come quite naturally for some, others have to work overtime to achieve great teacher status. Hope definitely is a natural and possesses the characteristics of a great teacher (tutor). I believe she is someone we can count on as a teacher/tutor to be remembered for years to come and selfishly I didn't want to write a review for fear that her time would be consumed by others in need. However, I know that if the time came she would find a way to accommodate additional time.
My wife is a first time ESL student. Hope is very patient & understanding. She is very thorough in teaching my wife the basics of just speaking & understanding. AWESOME Tutor!
Hope is an excellent tutor for languages because she draws from the native language of the student and then teaches them the new language. If you have a student needing assistance with a language course then consider engaging Hope.
Hope is a wonderful teacher. She is teaching my son (who is 8) Spanish. She is always on time. Her lessons are structured and she come prepared with a specific topic she wants to cover. My son enjoys studying with her.
Hope is amazing and works well with my daughter. She has raised her self esteem and explains the math in a way she understands. Hope is kind, patient, and we are so glad we found her.
My son has had a few Spanish lessons now with Hope and I've had an opportunity to listen to the lessons and get feedback from my son. We both feel it has been a very valuable and great experience having Hope as a tutor. She is very patient, thorough and professional and always maximizes the time she has for tutoring. We would definitely recommend her tutoring services! We are very glad to have found her.
Hope has been working with my 13 year old daughter in 8th grade. She is kind, patient, and very thorough. We are looking forward to noted improvement in the areas of prealgebra and science with Hope's help.
Hope is a very patient and kind tutor, and my son enjoys working with her every week. She is prompt and flexible as well. We use her as a tutor for math, but she is qualified to tutor any subject as she has a wealth of knowledge, even in foreign languages.
My 4 and 6 year olds love it when Hope comes to tutor. She keeps them engaged and motivated. I highly recommend her.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been tutoring for 10 years. During this time, I have had students of many different ages. In the elementary level, I have tutored: 4 boys between the ages of 4 and 11 years, and three girls between the ages of 5 and 10.
I have, as a tutor, helped students with public speaking and presentation skills. I have had to give many presentations thought my years as a student and have participated in debate club throughout high school and university. Also, I have experience from helping job searchers prepare for job interviews.
I have always been an A student, from high school all the way through to my Ph.D. studies. However, my grades do not come to me easily: I credit my grades to my hard work and dedicated studying using efficient and effective study skills.
The methods I use are the following:
- I read passages/books twice. The first time to get a general understanding and look up words I don't know, a second time to answer questions I am asked.
- I highlight key sentences and main ideas in passages/books, and even key words in questions to make sure I do not stray from the question asked.
- I take thorough notes in class, and on any homework assignments.
- I memorize necessary material, or, at the very least, understand it well enough that I can talk it through logically or even explain it to others to see if they understand what I am saying.
