My name is Mr. Richard C., the Education Coach. I call myself the Education Coach because this is my 19th year as an elementary school teacher with LAUSD and I have coached Summer Pro League Basketball (10+ years), as well as many years as a park and recreation coach of young children like yours. I feel there is a basic philosophy for teaching and coaching on any level, whether it's elementary academics or aspiring professional young people, and that is: Teaching Fundamentals Is Teaching Skills. Basically, if I teach the fundamentals of reading, i.e., letter sounds, putting sounds together to make a word, and syllabication (parts of a word), those fundamentals would be the basis of becoming a reader, therefore developing a skill to read. Likewise, if I teach the fundamentals of basketball to a player, his or her skill level would improve. In both instances, the confidence level of the reader or player will improve as they see their skill level improve. My 19 years as a teacher/coach has taught me how to be patient and understanding, as all children seem to pick up these skills at their own pace. The main thing is for them to get it. I can tutor elementary school kids (k-5) in any or all subjects. I can also help with P.E./sports training for young hoopsters. Let's talk and get your child the tutoring to help get them on the path to success!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My basketball coaching experience is extensive. I have coached on the highest level; Summer Pro League Basketball for over 15 years. I have coached NBA Star Players and Professional Basketball hopefuls during this period. On the other hand, I have coached, ran summer basketball camps and clinics for boys and girls 7 to 17. Including a week long camp under Kobe Bryant and a 1 day clinic sponsored by Lebron James.
I've been with LAUSD for 17 plus years. I have taught at every grade level from K thru 5th. I am currently in my 4th year as a K teacher. I taught 5th grade for 7 years. I also have 1.5 years working at a special ed center as a teacher.
