About Timothy

Hi! My name is Tim, a recent graduate from UC Irvine. I plan on teaching English in South Korea, and would like to get used to teaching before that. I actually plan on being a school counselor, and have a lot of experience working with students about academic goals and college counseling having been a peer academic advisor, a resident advisor (for college students in dorms), and a coach (a life mentor program for other undergraduates).

Having said that I decided to at least teach a subject in which I have a lot of confidence. The SAT was always a huge challenge for me in high school. I went to ELITE (a prestigious SAT prep class) and still struggled with getting the score that I wanted. However, developing a better (cheaper) way to study found me in better shape and I scored a 2260. I promise you that I am not some genius, but was able to figure out this stressful test, and if I can do it--so can you!

Math was my weakest subject, but I think that is why I can effectively teach to those who struggle to understand math as well. I know how you feel.

These sections at least, come quite naturally to me. I scored near perfects on both sections (although I did not start off that way) and can be conquered with just a few tricks and some practice. I am also certified on the TEFL to teach English having been trained for 120 hours through the i-to-i program.

I was accepted into the Honors programs at both UC Santa Barbara and UC Irvine, and was also accepted at UC Davis. At UC Irvine, I graduated among the top 5% of my class with Phi Beta Kappa Honors, School Honors, Campus-wide Honors, Major Honors, etc.

I was a peer academic advisor for students in the School of Social Ecology at UC Irvine, a resident advisor for incoming first years, and a Coach for the COACH program (Creating Options And Conquering Hurdles) at the Counseling Center. Beyond that, I just graduated and know my way around colleges and what is important.

If you are looking for some real, genuine advice on what schools suck, what schools don't, if your college essay could use work, or a simple breakdown of the SAT, please call me. That's have a candid conversation about some of your challenges and stressors, let's work together to empower you to move forward in your life.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

College Counseling

I was a Peer Academic Advisor for the UC Irvine Social Ecology Student Services, meeting undergraduate students daily to discuss academic plans and goals.

I have tutored others in writing personal statements and have helped make edits and improvements.

I have also been a resident advisor for incoming first years, and a undergraduate mentor and am currently training to be a school counselor.
