Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Career Development

I have mentored students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels regarding careers in academia, finance, the non-profit fields, education, and more, by helping students ascertain their strengths and career goals. Working together, we create a step-by-step plan that gives students confidence to construct a powerful resume and tailored cover letters, devise skills for building social capital and networks, and strategies for securing internships which are a critical pipeline for jobs.

College Counseling

I am a professor of sociology and have worked with administrators at my university on selecting incoming freshman. Hence, I understand college requirements from AP classes to test scores. I also understand what selective colleges are looking for in application packets. In addition, I have been a member of my department's graduate selection committee and can assist in developing personal statement and application materials for graduate school. I also advise and counsel graduate students through their educational trajectory and provide assistance with fellowships, MA theses, and dissertations.

Political Science

I have a PhD in Sociology but my work is interdisciplinary. I have written two books examining issues of race, immigration, and immigrant integration. Moreover, I teach college level classes that consider core concepts and theories from Political Science texts.

Social Studies

I am a professor of sociology at a research institution in Southern California. My work is interdisciplinary and merges with political science, history, American Studies, education, and more. I have written two books and ten peer-reviewed journal articles.

Sociology

I am presently a professor of sociology at a research university. I have a PhD in sociology and have written two books and over nine peer reviewed journal articles on sociological topics. I also regularly teach sociology classes to both graduate students and undergraduates. I can provide assistance at all levels, from college to high school.

Study Skills

I am a professor of sociology and have taught numerous students at varying levels appropriate study skills for multiple subjects. These skills include time management and test taking skills. I first assess the student's specific issue, and then create a detailed plan so that they may overcome whatever challenges they are facing.
