Dear Prospective Student or Parent of a Student:
Ever since I was a kid, I have loved both to learn and to teach. Helping others, whether young or old, is extremely important to me. I have tutored a variety of ages. I love to have fun with my students and see them learn. And for the past five years, I have been volunteering as a full-time teacher.
Mathematics (particularly pre-algebra and algebra) and English (particularly grammar and writing) are my strongest subjects. I employ techniques such as mnemonic devices, word associations, connecting new information onto memories and older bits of information, along with humor and visual aids in order to build a strong educational foundation. I believe the adage, "Give a man a fish, feed him for a day; teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime." I do not feel tutoring is just feeding answers to a student, instead I help them grow and make the knowledge their own. This allows them to make the necessary connections in order to truly understand the material. It has been proven that people learn something more quickly when they enjoy what they're learning. I promise to help you do just that - find joy in any given subject. Much like a handrail on a staircase, I do my best to guide a student, keeping them balanced as they go through each lesson. And while math and English are my specialties, the same methods I use to tutor those subjects can be applied universally, no matter what it is you're learning.
I am experienced at public speaking and understand how nerve-racking, yet crucial, it is - and so I enjoy showing others how easy it can be to speak in front of a crowd, using exercises and helpful tips for addressing others. I cannot make the butterflies in your stomach go away when delivering a speech, but I promise to help you make them "fly in formation".
I enjoy teaching students the basics of playing the piano and reading music. After teaching myself the basics of playing the piano, I took lessons from a respected jazz teacher for two years. I was taught, not just how to play by rote, but how to improvise with music, simple techniques that add color and depth to your music; and so I promise to pass on those same skills to you.
My schedule is fairly flexible, and I am extremely patient in helping others. I guarantee you will walk away from each lesson understanding the material better and better each time. Please contact me in order to schedule our first session. I look forward to meeting you.

Micheal is a very patient tutor and makes sure that my kids have a handle on the material at every session. He is flexible with times and keeps you up to date on his arrival times. He has worked very well with my 9th grader and my 6th grader. I highly recommend him.
Micheal was an excellent teacher, we had a one to one sessions focusing on English skills. I learned a lot from him because he knows how to explain all the grammar rules in a very simple way. Also, my vocabulary has highly increased as Micheal is always prepared with a full list of new words every session. I would highly recommend Micheal to anyone who is looking for an ESL teacher. In addition, Micheal is very friendly, always on-time and never late on responding to any emails, calls, or Text messages.
Micheal is doing a great job with my son in math. He is very patient and explains things well. He test scores have come up since seeing him.
Micheal is kind, patient, and very professional. He has been a great help to our daughter and has taking away some of the stress that can come with middle school. I would definitely recommend him as a tutor!
Our son looks forward to meeting with Micheal because he makes the work interesting and fun. Thank you Micheal.
Michael C is very patient and knowledgeable. He is a first tutor my son actually enjoyed studying with. He is very easy going and professional. I would recommend him without any hesitations.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
For many years now, I've been attending weekly classes that train teachers to be public speakers. In those classes, I help dozens of students to improve their speech, as well as their writing and reading skills. I deliver public discourses in front of audiences of one hundred or more people on a regular basis, and have been doing so since I was a teenager. Recently, I've traveled through different cities within Los Angeles to deliver a speech at local places of worship. Back in 2010, I attended a two-week course on teaching others and improving on social skills when interacting with strangers and large audiences.
I help my students feel comfortable speaking in front of a crowd. I help them improve in various areas of speech, such as articulation, modulation, extemporaneous and fluent delivery, and enthusiasm. I focus on teaching my students how to prepare and organize their thoughts in order to keep their audience's attention and feel confident.
It is important that a public speaker understands the goal of their speech: Is it to motive the audience? Is it to explain a particular subject or answer a specific question? More importantly, a public speaker must know his audience: Is it made up of children? teenagers? adults? Are they there for educational reasons? secular reasons? It is equally important that a public speaker fully understands the theme of their speech and properly develop and deliver that theme in a natural manner. Above all, a public speaker must be poised and likable to their audience. It is with this mindset that I instruct students and prepare them for any and all speeches.
Since December 2014, I have been working at the Speech and Language Development Center in Buena Park, California. I work one-on-one with students who have special needs, including autism and various physical disabilities. Each day consists of teaching math and language arts skills tailored to each student's capability, as well as assisting in altered physical education.
