About Chris

I am a Los Angeles and Orange County-based tutor with over a decade of consecutive full-time tutoring experience in mathematics, English reading and writing, and standardized tests. My approach to tutoring is all about personalization: strategically crafting a program for you that generates immediate, tangible, and lasting results. I prioritize three keys to success with my students: deeply understanding the subject material, applying the subject to recognizable situations, and executing to achieve that A-grade or high standardized test score. Although I stress the importance of motivation and discipline in their studies, I underscore the value of discovering and applying tailored approaches for each and every individual student, subject, and situation.

I am the tutor of choice in my subject areas because of my intelligence. I graduated as a salutatorian at one of California's most prestigious and rigorous public schools, currently ranked number four in the nation by Newsweek Magazine. In all my standardized tests, I scored in the 99th- to 99.97th-percentile, including multiple 'perfect' 800s. At Dartmouth College, I earned a Bachelor's degree in Economics and spent many, many evenings as a paid academic tutor to my classmates. I think that's important to note: at an Ivy League college, I was paid to tutor other ultra-high-achieving Ivy League students. After college, I worked as a management consultant at what was then California's largest independent technology services company.

I enjoy tutoring because I can positively change the lives of my students in measurable ways. I've improved grades within weeks; I've shown students how to comprehend the great novels they're reading; I've made sense of complicated formulas. While the time spent traveling to-and-from student locations in busy Los Angeles and Orange County traffic is challenging, the rewards are more than sufficient.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 2

I took Algebra 2 in the 8th grade and received an A. My SAT score for Math was in the 99.97% and my SAT Math Level 2 score was a perfect 800.

In tutoring Algebra 2, I focus on understanding how we work with and manage different types of numbers, equations, and formulas to solve problems.

For over a decade, I've successfully taken students who did not understand Algebra 2 concepts such as polynomial and conic equations, graphing, exponential and radical numbers, and Algebra-based problem solving, and given them the insight, knowledge, and working mechanics necessary to succeed in that subject.

Microsoft Windows

I am the information technology manager at L.A. Supply Co., a multi-million-dollar distribution and textiles company. I deploy, manage, and secure over a dozen Microsoft Windows boxes from XP to 10. Previously, I've worked as an Information Technology consultant at Computer Sciences Corporation and as the Technical Project Manager at an Internet video company that was subsequently acquired by Viacom.
