Hi! I graduated from high school this year as valedictorian, and found my passion for academia through helping my peers grow with me. Hi! I graduated from high school this year as valedictorian, and found my passion for academia through helping my peers grow with me. In my junior year of high school, I took AP Calculus, and formed a very close connection with the other students in the class. We spent time helping each other, and tutoring each other. This is what ignited my passion for tutoring. Then, in my senior year of high school, my AP Calculus teacher saw my ability and interest in teaching, and had me come in on days when he needed a substitute to teach the class. On numerous occasions throughout the year, I came in and taught entire class periods. Through this, I understand both the perspective of a student, forced to memorize formulas for stressful tests that don't really teach anything, and the perspective of a teacher, trying to make memorization unnecessary.

These experiences changed my entire outlook on teaching. I realized the challenges, but I also realized the joy that comes from seeing people's eyes light up as they truly understand a topic, or are given a new angle to look at things. My focus when I tutor is to try and introduce topics in different, creative, thought-provoking ways that give students a different outlook on the entire subject. In simpler terms, I want to make learning fun. Not just in the way I tutor, but also in the way the students learn. I want to turn the ideas of textbook learning and memorizing formulas on its head, and instead engage the students in fun ways of thinking that help them reach their own conclusions.

From freshmen year of high school, I was in Math 2- a year ahead of what was required of me. From there, I went into math 3, and then AP Calculus my junior year. I passed the AP Calculus class with a 5, and went on to teach entire class periods of the AP Calculus class the following year. In my senior year of high school, I took a college statistics course through a local community college. I have also taken numerous programming classes, and learned how to think about calculus, trigonometry
