I am an experienced (10+yrs) Certified Tutor specializing in Human Anatomy/Physiology, various Sciences, Mathematics, and Standardized Test Prep, as well as being a College Admissions Consultant on several online platforms. I worked briefly for Kaplan in this capacity before venturing out independently. Please refer to my profile for a full list of science and math courses that I tutor.

I have extensive experience tutoring students for the SATI Math & Reading, SATII Math, SATII Chemistry, and SATII Biology Subject Exams. My students consistently demonstrate improvement in their scores.

My SATI Exam students, on average, see increases in their combined scores by about 125pts. (From among those who completed at least a two month, 2 sessions per week, test prep course with me.)

My SATII Subject Exam students often are able to get over the “hump” in their scores by breaking into the 600+ range from having initial scores in the 500s. Similarily, students with previous scores in the 600s frequently surpass the 700 point barrier. (Although a student’s initial background knowledge is an important factor, these statistics are from students who have completed at least a 1 month, 2-3 sessions per week, test prep course with me.)

Other exams I tutor are the MCATs, NCLEX, and USMLE Step 1.

My role as College Admissions Consultant began as an Alumni Interviewer for Yale that eventually transitioned into helping students, at various stages in their academic careers, to successfully progress to the next level of education. I specialize in Undergraduate and Medical School Admissions, as well as Pre-College Mentoring. I also help students with their applications for various notable healthcare-related internships and research programs.

My role consists of assisting high school and college students with completing applications, comprehensively editing personal statements and supplemental essays, helping to organize appropriate school lists by carefully balancing credentials versus desires, and providing assistance with interviewing skills. I effectively guide my students, from start-to-finish, through these stages of academic development and success, which I clearly understand are of paramount importance.

I have helped over 250 students to successfully complete their admissions process with desired results. During this (‘19-‘20) cycle alone, I worked with over 50 students, and edited over 125 personal statements and essays; majority of these students submitted my edited work without any additional changes due to my impeccable quality of work. Many of my reviews, from both students and parents, include comments such as "Excellent quality of work." "Beyond expectations, superior writing."

I also offer Pre-College Mentoring for those who are not yet at the stage of applying to colleges (i.e. HS Soph’s/Jr’s), but are in a position to maximize their chances for college acceptances, ideally at their desired schools, by actively planning and prepping for college entrance exams, utilizing their spare time to strengthen out-of-class qualifications and credentials, and learning about the process early so they can make any necessary changes. I strive to make all these things happen for my students.

Some Relevant Background Information:
While I was in high school, I was a Valedictorian, IB Diploma Recipient, and AP Scholar. I then graduated from Yale University with a BS in Biomedical Engineering. I spent 3yrs working on primate research in an effort to help develop an AIDS vaccine through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. I then entered medical school at OHSU after scoring in the 98th percentile on the MCATs. Upon graduating with an MD, I started a general surgery residency in Brooklyn, NY. After having completed 2.5yrs, I decided to take some time off.

My entire life has revolved around academics. To fulfill my childhood aspirations of becoming a Surgeon, I had to explore many of the Sciences (i.e. organic and inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, biology and physics at various difficulty levels, fluid mechanics, pharmacology, human anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, Academic and Clinical Medicine, intensive critical care, etc.) in their depths. Naturally, I was also led to explore, and become proficient in, various subjects in Mathematics, including those that I successfully completed at Yale to fulfill the requirements for my Biomedical Engineering Major. I sincerely believe that it is this comprehensive education and experience that allows me to be one of the more qualified candidates on any online (or in-person) platforms to teach the basic/core sciences, human/biological sciences, and mathematics to my students.

Additionally, I know through my own trials what it takes to go through the admissions process at various academic/career levels, with each successive tier becoming even more stressful and demanding, which ultimately comes with the price of greater sacrifice and, possibly even, disappointment. I felt the same anxiety, depression, uncertainty, frustration, and sense of failure at times. But, I also had the privilege of experiencing the overwhelming joy, happiness, and sense of accomplishment that naturally comes with overcoming a task that initially felt insurmountable. I am confident that the lessons I learned. and the failures I experienced, while traversing from high school to college, from college to entering the workforce, from the workforce to entering medical school, then finally from medical school to applying for General Surgery Residency allows me to successfully function as an Admissions Consultant.

Mostly through the intangible, yet invaluable, knowledge that I can provide, I can undoubtedly guide students to progress further towards academic success, without having to “reproduce the wheel”.

NCLEX

I can help you to progress further towards your nursing aspirations. I am an MD by training, graduated from OHSU Med School in 2014, and completed ~2.5yrs of General Surgery Residency. I have 6yrs+ experience teaching and mentoring Nursing students (and Nurses) in both Academic and Clinical Medicine, as well as helping to improve their knowledge of various clinical topics (i.e. fluid and electrolyte balance, volume management, correction of acid-base disturbances, mechanism of action of drugs, post-op management, critical and trauma care, ABCDE, etc.) to not only perform well on the NCLEX Exam (HESI for pre-Nursing students), but to also provide safe and effective patient care. During my 2nd year of residency, while I was managing the ICU in 24hr shifts, I was often drawn to the senior ICU Nurses, who I deeply appreciated for their knowledge and persistant hard work. During many of these shifts when it was time for the experienced Nurses to teach and strengthen the clinical knowledge of the newer, less experienced, Nurses, I frequently offered to lead the teaching sessions so that the older Nurses would have some time off. This friendly gesture of “a couple times” turned into “all the time.” I have assisted in the training of Nurses ever since.

Until you observe physiology gone awry, it is difficult to truly understand the significance of normal physiology, where thousands of different actions must occur at precisely the right time and place. The body must then communicate that information throughout the body in-order to coordinate specific and essential functions. Only then can someone truly begin to appreciate, and marvel at, the natural workings of the human body. Physiology is an eye-opening and awe-inspiring subject. I can help you prepare for your crucial exam. I have extensive experience assisting high school and college students prepare for exams that are required to progress to the next level of higher education. With over 10yrs+ experience tutoring students to perform to their fullest potential on the SATI Math & Reading, SATII Math (both levels), SATII Chemistry, and SATII Biology Exams, my students consistently demonstrate improvements in their scores: ***My SATI Exam students, on average, see increases in their combined scores by about 125pts. (From among those who completed at least a two month, 2 sessions per week, test prep course with me.) ***My SATII Subject Exam students, based on previous attempts and/or practice tests, often are able to get over the “hump” in their scores by breaking into the 600+ range from having initial scores in the 500s. Similarily, students with previous scores already in the 600s frequently surpass the 700 point barrier. (Although a student’s initial background knowledge is an important factor, these statistics are from students who have completed at least a 1 month, 2-3 sessions per week, test prep course with me.) I have exhaustive personal experience with standardized testing at all levels, consistently scoring above the 95-99th percentile on all exams (AP, IB, SAT1, SAT2, MCATs, USMLE, ABSITE).

Excellent Tutor for My Son - Came Through in a Pinch!

We are so grateful to Tae! He tutored our son through his IB Chemistry final and fingers crossed, we are still waiting for the grades, but we believe he passed. He jumped in quickly, flexibly re-arranged his schedule to meet my Son's scheduling needs, and was a great teacher! Thanks!

Patient and very helpful

Before my SAT subject test in Math II, Tae helped me learn new concepts I had never learned. He was great at explaining and taught me how to apply such concepts efficiently. Going into my test, I felt thoroughly prepared and confident due to his help.
