I worked as a substitute teacher for the 5th largest school district in the nation from 2012-2015. I finished teaching 1st grade before moving to Fresno. I have tutored for 18 years, including college and adult-aged students. I have taught/tutored in Utah, Nevada and now California. I am familiar with Common Core and canonized texts.
I have great successes! In fact, one 12th grader I had a few months ago needed to pass her graduation/proficiency exam in order to graduate and had 3 chances to score at least 300. She failed the first 2 times (scoring 170 and 185) and then hired me. We only met for 8 hours and she scored a 350!
I also helped a third grader catch up a grade and a half that she was behind in reading and phonics in 6 months time.
I definitely think outside the box & can create homework geared specifically for you.
My Master's and Bachelor’s degrees are both English and Education-related. I have special skills in adolescent literacy, phonics, and reading comprehension as well as writing.
I am excited to help you reach your goals and show you just how smart you are!

Excellent!

She was an amazing critique! She gave me pointers and things to remember when writing an essay. It was an awesome two sessions and I was glad I did the review with her.

Knowledgeable, friendly and devoted!

If you're looking for some one who is knowledgeable, friendly, and devoted, Ms. Shauna is perfect for you. I like her at the very first day. She's working with me on vocabularies ( figurative language, prefix, suffix) metaphor, similies, speaking... She knows what I need and helps me to attain it. She is a perfect tutor for me. Can't wait to the next session with her.
