California State University Fresno (Theater)
I am currently a Substitute Teacher in Madera Unified School District and happily married. I am going to finish up my BA in theater this fall and move on to the English, History, and Multi-subject credential programs. I enjoy literature and history, but have a passion for theater. I am friendly to get along with unless you are being disrespectful. I believe every student can achieve whatever they desire if they put forth the effort and have support from family.
I enjoy video games, anime, comics and movies. My favorite book/musical is Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. My favorite movie is The Dark Knight. I am also currently writing a novel and some plays.
English has always been easier than any subject for me except history. My specific background growing up was literature. I read many of the classics before high school. From that I am writing my own novel series. Text analysis also was heavily emphasized. As for public speaking, I have been immersed in theater for many years and find it helps being able to speak in front of many people.
American History is history relevant to us that I found fascinating. I know too much history because I found it interesting, so I'd do a little more research when it was required. I also always watched many of documentaries on History Channel growing up. In the course of studying theatre I have been exposed to history in that way, for example a play called The Normal Heart required research about the AIDS epidemic in the 1980's
Theatre is the degree I will be obtaining in the fall semester. I have done numerous shows both as an actor and crew member. I have worked with local companies such as Good Company Players and Stageworks Fresno. At Fresno State I did the Children's Tour two years in a row. I have been trained to director, act, run a sound, build flats, analyze texts. I know how to even study the works of Shakespeare.
Please feel free to contact me for tutoring and lessons. I hope I can help you in not only improving your understanding of the subject but make it fun in the process. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Theater is similar to public speaking. You must talk to an audience in both cases. Public Speaking is more about presenting a project or similar. Through my theater training, I have learned to overcome nervousness from practicing in a safe environment and relaxation techniques. Voice class also taught about articulation and I know various more articulation exercises as well.
My BA this semester will be in theater. I have taken various courses at Fresno State pertaining to the different aspects of theater such as voice, acting, directing, stage craft. I worked on many shows at Fresno State. I preformed in shows at local companies such as Good Company Players, Stageworks, and Children's Musical Theater (though straight shows are more my specialty over musicals).
