Hello, my name is Diego N. I believe that every child has the potential to be something amazing in this world, and I want to do my part, to help them succeed. I recently graduated with a 3.46 from San Marcos High School in Santa Barbara, California, before moving to Fresno with my family, taking classes such as, Math 117 (College Statistics), AP Literature, AP Macroeconomics and AP Microeconomics. Helping children has always been a lifelong passion of mine. I worked a summer as a Teacher's Aide at a local Preschool, teaching every class about the gardens we had, the environment, and healthy eating. This sparked another passion of mine, food. I have taken three classes at Santa Barbara City College on food and the safe handling of foods. Passing with flying colors, I was able to help the notoriously fickle children in the Pre-K classes to love growing, harvesting, and eating their own produce. Before, they wouldn't even eat a sweet pea, at the end of my time there, the children would come up all the time to my plant deck for pieces of kale, or arugula, or some ripe cherry tomatoes to snack on.
I use to struggle in elementary school, especially in subjects like math and handwriting, but I found a tutor who would work one on one with me, and never gave up on me, and now I want to pay it forward. I have volunteered to tutor at my Middle School when I was in 8th grade, tutoring the Elementary school children who also went there. I would help 1st and 2nd grade kids how to do the basics of reading, writing, and math, and really enjoyed it. I'm a person who is a very visual learner, and by the same coin, a visual teacher. I give examples and bring the coursework back to a way all children can understand it.
Having dealt with this in my own past, I believe every child has the right to feel proud of their accomplishments, and that is how I teach. I will lay down the process for them, and teach them what they know, then make sure they comprehend the topic, before moving on to another, and I make sure they feel very proud of their achievements.
I am willing to do whatever it takes to see your child succeed. For all my subjects I offer flash card studying sessions, where we sit down and make flashcards of all the topics they need to know, and then go over them, not just to memorize how to spell Parachute, but why things are the way they are.
I am flexible with my appointments and have an 24 hour cancellation notice, but I am more than willing to reschedule for another day. Making sure your child has the best foundation from the beginning, to build on as they advance through school and beyond. Hello, my name is Diego N. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I've been involved in after school cooking classes since I was in the 6th grade. In my Junior Year at San Marcos High School. I was dual-enrolled in three separate city college classes, and passed all with A+'s, where I learned Baking and Pastry Arts, Culinary Arts, and Sanitation/Food Safety. I am now currently the Teacher's Aide for the very same class, helping out with teaching of the same culinary classes I was taking.
Having struggled with spelling when I was a child, my mother taught me that practice can truly make perfect. I went from being the worst speller in the 3rd grade, to being one of the best. It was all thanks to the system of flash card practice, and breaking words down for easy recollection.
