About Robert

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to look at my qualifications for being your tutor. I have a Associates degree in Accounting and a Bachelors in Business Human Resource Management. I am currently enrolled to earn my Masters in Education. I currently coach wrestling at a local elementary school and have a current background check on file with the school district. I enjoy working with students of all ages and find I can be very helpful in Science, Reading, Creative Writing, Writing, Public Speaking, many different Sports lessons, and the various History and Social Studies classes. I have completed a number of classes towards my teaching credentials and feel I have learned enough to help any student.

In addition to the above qualifications, I excel at test taking strategies and various aspects of psychology. I have been in general manager for the past 12 years for wood manufacturing companies, I have graduated from the police academy and hold a current P.O.S.T. certification, and have received a certificate in interview techniques. I have coached soccer, ice hockey, and currently coach wrestling. I believe I am a well rounded individual with a significant amount of experience to support my education. I look forward to working with you and your student.

Thank you again for taking the time in reading my information.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am currently enrolled in M.A. Teaching, Elementary Education (K-8) at Western Governors University. I have passed my CBEST exam as a requirement for the State Of California. I have completed more than 90 units towards a Bachelors in Education prior to earning my Bachelors degree in Human Resource Management.

Elementary Math

I initially enrolled in college as a Math major. I not only have knowledge of Mathematics, but I love to teach this subject.

Elementary Science

In high school I excelled in all of my science related courses. I was involved in the science fair and participated in many science related activities. In college I continue to breeze through the science courses.

Psychology

I took a number of Psychology courses as I pursed my degree in Education. I supplemented this with additional courses as I found psychology to be the basis for many aspects of learning.

Study Skills

My knowledge in the area of Study Skills comes from two different sources. The first source is my own education. While working on my Bachelors degree, I was forced to develop successful strategies to aid in learning and demonstrating what I had learned. I successfuly completed my Bachelors with a 3.0 and am currently applying those same Study Skills in the pursuit of my Masters degree.

The second source of developing and understanding study skills is Psychology. I have earned enough credits to essentially earn my Bachelors in Psychology, though I changed my major to Business. The principles and foundations taught in Psychology help us to understand how the brain works and how to retain information. There is so much more to learning than just reading a book or completing repetitive problems. Information has to be anchored to something relevant in a persons mind for it to be retained.

These are the foundations of my Study Skills expertise. Through my trial/error and knowledge of Psychology, I am able to help others learn and retain what they have learned.

Writing

The ability to communicate is the foundation for any society. Writing is a means of expressing ideas without the benefit of seeing the receipients reaction. I have written a novel, screen plays, poems, and songs throughout my life. I enjoy writing and how it can be used to convey ideas. In a society that has become focused on visual representations, writing is becoming a lost art.
