I have over 22 years of accounting and finance experience, which covered a wide range of managerial responsibilities in different industries. I have worked for several years with two of the Big 5 public accounting/auditing firms, KPMG LLP and PricewaterhouseCoopers. I was chief financial officer for a privately held corporation, corporate controller for several years for two manufacturing firms and a resort, and accounting consultant for Babcock & Brown, and the Union Bank.
I am currently a faculty member of University of Phoenix and International Technological University in the MBA program of the Business Administration Department while also holding an Accounting Manager's position at the University. Currently, I am finishing my doctoral studies in Accounting.
While teaching, I also tutor and coach students who need help in catching up with the course. I believe in facilitating and coaching to bring out the best in each student. I understand some are slower than others but I also believe they can all be taught with the proper technique in teaching and/or tutoring.
I teach what I have learned in over 20 years of experience in the real world of business - accounting, management, and leadership.
I am a very patient educator and I believe each one of my students has the ability to learn given the opportunity and the right type of coaching. I have students that never had accounting courses nor worked in accounting but at the end of the course were able to demonstrate the concepts and theories and apply them in practice.
I would recommend either a one-on-one or small group tutoring at least once a week. During my classes, I give several examples then I let the students perform problems on their own until they become comfortable doing it without me coaching them. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
One of the courses I teach is Critical Thinking in Decision Making in Business where I teach students how to speak and do presentations in the class. I coach and facilitate the learning of public speaking in most of my classes to give students the opportunity to learn and practice speaking in public while they are still in school. I show confidence in public speaking which is a good role model for the students to mimic.
