University of California, San Diego (Biochemistry)
As of March 2014, I graduated from UC San Diego with the degree Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Chemistry. This major taught a fair bit of biochemistry, but the majority of the emphasis was on chemistry. As a result, I am very adept at a wide array of of the life sciences, ranging from physical and organic chemistry, down to genetics and human physiology. As a chemistry major, I have also been taught math up to Differential Equations. After I graduated, I started working for a medical device company in San Diego, and then moved up to San Jose for a new job. However, my passion for teaching and learning is still very strong.
All through my high school years, I was part of an after-school homework help program, where I helped kindergarten through 8th grade students understand the concepts behind their homework. Later on, I was part of a Red Cross team that taught basic First Aid to children 3rd grade and younger. My enjoyment of tutoring and teaching started in these places, and continues to today. In college, I became the editor-in-chief of a campus science magazine, and had the unique opportunity to hold office hours to help fellow students write their articles and formulate their ideas.
When it comes to teaching, I like to make sure that my students not only gain a good grasp on the subject matter, but have fun while understanding why the concepts are important to daily life. I also ensure that I am accessible to my students if they need help outside of contact hours. Please feel free to contact me regarding any of your teaching needs! I have had one session with Veena so far and she's proved to be incredibly helpful. I have learned a great deal more about scientific writing from her. She explains things in a clear, concise manner, and I couldn't be happier with the way my project is turning out! Veena is extremely knowledgeable, and can think very quickly. She definitely has a way with words! My project was in biochemistry, and therefore, helping me with it would require a great command of biochemistry, as well as effective writing skills. And she had that! I'll definitely be taking some more help from her. She's very easy to reach! Best attitude plus quality job and on time! She deserves more than 5 stars. The very best!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have tutored this subject in an after school program designed for kids who were struggling with completing their homework.
After having taken algebra 2 in high school, I have helped many fellow students with these concepts.
I hold a minor in biology from UCSD.
I hold a bachelor's degree in chemistry from UCSD.
Throughout high school, I was a tutor at an after school program that was designed to help struggling students with their homework in reading, writing, math, spelling, science, and social studies. Come college, I took some classes in children's education, and took part in another mentoring program on campus. In both programs, I was known to be one of the more effective tutors, as I can communicate with children of this age effectively. I treat homework assignments with patience, while making sure that students have fun while mastering the important concepts. I am extremely passionate about teaching children, as I understand that students' enjoyment of the educational process starts off at the elementary school level. Therefore, I believe it is of utmost importance that students at this age are taught well, and in a manner such that they appreciate each subject they learn.
From 2007-2010, I served as an elementary and middle school tutor in an afterschool program designed for struggling students. I also have experience with this age group, as I help out many of the kids in my own family with their homework and classwork.
In the past, I have tutored in an after school program in an elementary school for students below the 7th grade who were struggling with subjects like math, reading, and science. I would make sure they not only got their homework done, but that they understood the concepts behind every assignment.
I had a score of about 700 on my SAT Math when I took it, and have tutored some of my cousins and friends for this same subject.
In high school, I was part of the JV and Varsity swim teams. I continued to swim even in college, and took a good load of classes in this area. I have taught swimming to beginners before, and they have come out to be very successful swimmers.
I am a former editor-in-chief of the Triple Helix magazine. I have also held office hours to help people out in writing their articles. Having completed college level English courses in the US, I believe I can help students meet their goals for this test.
