Hi, my name is Andrew! I graduated cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh with a Neuroscience major and a Chemistry minor on the pre-med track. If I learned anything from graduating from a large public high school and university, it is the importance of resourcefulness and learning that occurs outside of the classroom. Finding time to get help from a teacher or assistant on a difficult subject can be a daunting task in itself, let alone one whose attention is divided among dozens of students. While teachers were not always readily available for help, tutoring gave me the opportunity to ask all my questions and make mistakes in a pressure-free environment. It allowed me to strengthen my understanding and find weaknesses that I would not have realized until test day!
I became a tutor because I learned from first-hand experience just how beneficial tutoring can be. My approach is often focused on reverse-teaching, which lets students interact with the material and discover areas they may have overlooked during class. Having students explain and walk me through their thought process in approaching a question encourages dialogue and can also give them confidence in material they understand well. Of course, this is also highly variable and dependent on both the student and the subject being covered! I have had over four years of tutoring experience, both in one-on-one and classroom settings, for many different tests and subjects.
I have had experience tutoring students in the following:
MCAT (medical school admission test), which requires a thorough understanding of Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Psychology, and Sociology,
SAT Writing, Essay, and Math,
ACT English, Math, and Science,
AP Chemistry, SAT Chemistry Subject Test,
Pre-algebra, Algebra, Geometry, English & Literature, study skills, and Korean ESL
My hope is not only to help students improve their grades, but also to give them more confidence in their abilities, which is just as important in their academic careers. Feel free to message me if you have an
