About Leah

For me, learning is guided by an innate interest in the world, and as a student of life, I want to instill that same eagerness to participate I've developed since childhood. When we're *interested* in the world, it's natural that we become *interesting* with a wealth of character and wisdom. This is my motive for tutoring and bringing out individuality and self-guided learning.

Growing up in Ohio I studied and composed on the piano for ten years while running track and cross-country in high school and college. I received a BA in Anthropology from Ohio University in 2011 and moved to South Korea to teach conversational English soon after.
In 2012 I taught spoken English, with an emphasis on creativity and fluency, to 5-17 year olds at a private after-school academy to encourage free-thinking, confidence with English, and a broad knowledge base. I also developed and taught a three-month conversational English program for eight adult engineers. Acting as a cultural ambassador of the US and others, I created and administered individualized speaking tests to twenty-five classes per week and adjusted my daily curriculum to reach every student. I taught four to eight 45 minute classes per day with the absence of a co-teacher in an all-English classroom.

This international experience has been a cornerstone for my own cultural learning and teaching and I aim to continue the journey here in the US. I look forward to meeting you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
