About Stephanie

Hello!

I've been working with students of all ages, skill level, language, and learning style for nearly the last 10 years. Currently, I'm pursuing a Master's in Education from the University of Redlands. During the day, I would like to spend my time tutoring.

I have experience teaching Math, English, ESL, Writing, ACT, study skills, job readiness skills, healthcare, psychology, statistics, stress relief, life skills, etc.

I've written curriculums, developed goal plans through strategic analysis of the unique characteristics, strengths and interests of my students.

I can offer a comprehensive analysis of your/ your child's learning style and the types of methods that might move you in the direction of your goals.

It would be my pleasure to work with you in your home, mine, or a local library, depending on your choice.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Stephanie

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have worked in after school programs at several elementary schools with Cambridge Educational Services. I enjoy teaching math and English to all ages and skill levels. I have been in the field of education for nearly 10 years.

ESL/ESOL

A native Chicagoan, Stephanie has spent the last 10 years educating, advocating, and experiencing life in different countries.

Right out of high school, Stephanie worked as a Home Health Aid for an elderly woman who didn’t have use of her legs. As a graduate from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a background in Psychology, Stephanie first reached the professional world through the medium of Case Management.

She found that advocating for patients’ medical and mental health needs, utilizing resources to assist individual goal achievement, and promoting educational and social programs were the most rewarding elements of her position at Thresholds. While working in the field of social work, Stephanie also volunteered for World Relief where she discovered her love for teaching English as a Second Language.

After receiving her TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certification, she taught ESL full-time at a language school catering to high school students in Chiapas, Mexico. The small school was in an even smaller town where the townsfolk walked about in the early hours of the morning selling freshly homemade tortillas from the baskets atop their heads.

Upon returning to her native country, she was able to experience heterogeneous ESL instruction by teaching in a far larger institution, Solex College. The decision to travel to Ukraine to be an ESL instructor and camp counselor in the Carpathian Mountains was inspired by the desire to see the land of her ancestors. In Kamenets-Podolsk, Stephanie kissed the ground that her great-grandparents had walked on a hundred years before.

Upon her second return to her homeland, she was further enriched by teaching an ESL Culture class at Intrax International Institute. To add to the diversity of her experience, she had the opportunity to teach Supplemental Educational Service (SES) classes at Chicago Public Schools through Cambridge Educational Services. At CPS, she taught both math and English to 2nd and 3rd graders, as well as ACT prep to High School juniors.

Finally, Stephanie embraced the opportunity to utilize her multi-faceted skills in healthcare, education, advocacy, resource management, job readiness, and her passion to reach out to the community in creating a program at JVS that has been both successful and inspiring. Stephanie seeks to continue her career as an advocate for students to achieve their academic and professional goals by coordinating and teaching vocational-based programs as well as working as a one-on-one with students in the community.

Microsoft Windows

I have been working on Microsoft Windows for many years. I have taught computer classes to students with absolutely no background in computers, and some with more advanced skills. I am patient and willing to work with you at your level.

Special Needs

I have a degree in Psychology and a background in Education. At Tuesday's Child, I was an Early Intervention Instructor. Since then, I have worked with children and adults with a spectrum of special needs from ADHD, to Autism, to mental illness. I take a behaviorist approach and have employed ABA with some of my students.

Study Skills

I have been an instructor of study skills, test taking skills, and job readiness skills for over 6 years. I have worked in after school programs with students at all levels in ages to promote the development of their note taking, stress relief, test preparation, and ability to focus. I can work with students with different learning styles and help them achieve their potential.
