My undergraduate studies were in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Global Studies. I went onto to continue my education and pursued a graduate degree in Counseling Ministry. Throughout my undergraduate and graduate studies I was able to experience education through teaching in structured classroom environments and innovative education outside the classroom. I worked with international students during their time of studying abroad in the United States, as well as with students studying abroad in South America. I have had a number of opportunities to guide and train individuals in learning English as a second language as well as cultural assimilation.
I value opportunities to speak into others and find ways to best challenge and equip them for success. I believe that the individual attention that comes with tutoring increases the value of the educational experiences and enables the individual to gain skills for success.
I have had led and participated in short term field opportunities abroad to teach students English. I have worked with children as while as college students in such settings in learning how to read, write, and speak English as a second language. These opportunities including going to places such as Rwanda, Spain, Ecuador, and Mexico to participate in cross-cultural engagement promoting language skills. I have also worked with international students providing platforms for them to better learn the English language as well as the American culture.
My undergraduate studies provided the opportunities and skill sets to teach and tutor elementary students. I have had a plethora of experiences of teaching children and providing individual tutoring. Through my student teaching, developing and managing Vacation Bible School programs, and working with children, I understand that children need a learning environment that is dynamic while addressing their unique needs as an individual.
I believe that each person is uniquely created and gifted. Everyone learns differently and may not thrive with simply having the education provided in a traditional American classroom environment. Part of why I value tutoring is because of the fact that it creates the space for the individual to be challenged where they are at and encouraged to grow to their best potential in an environment that can be safe, welcoming, customized to their learning needs.
I look forward to hearing from you soon and collaborating how we can best work as a teach for your personal success! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
