I have been teaching Mandarin in California for 10 years. I teach students of all ages and levels; from beginning to advanced, from young children to adults. My tutoring job includes a) listening, speaking, reading and writing depending on ages and levels (For younger children, I tell stories, introduce the Chinese culture, teach songs, play games, make fun projects, and art work. I usually prepare and design a variety of additional materials for students at different levels); b) grammar, listening and reading comprehensions for middle and high school students who are preparing to take the Chinese SATII test or the AP Chinese test; and c) business and travel conversations for adults. Very patient and instructs students in a orderly and consistent hour. My son's knowledge and grades have improved under her patient guidance!
In response to my question which went completely off the lesson plan and related to grammar theory, Lucy easily adjusted to the new subject. Lucy is great!
Lucy is a seasoned and fun Mandarin teacher. My 4.5 yr old daughter took to Lucy's engaging disposition immediately and stays interested throughout the session.
Lucy is a fantastic tutor. She is very patient and extremely well organized. She is able to instill curiosity and drill language fundamentals, which are critical elements for ongoing language advancement, particularly for a language such as Chinese. I recommend her highly.
My daughter has been a little resentful about taking Chinese as her language in High School. I thought a tutor was going to go over like a lead balloon. After the lesson my daughter said, "I love her, she is so nice and funny". She really enjoyed the tutoring and I am confident with Lucy's help she will start to love Chinese.
We just had our first lesson & Lucy was fantastic! My daughter asked if she could come over everyday she liked her so much! They played games & I heard a lot of laughter during their one hour lesson. We look forward to working with her more.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
