About Safa

I recently graduated with my Master of Arts degree in International Policy. I am currently in the works of traveling abroad within the next six months, but in the meantime, I am looking to strengthen my teaching and tutoring skills. I have been a substitute teacher for two years, and I have tutored for over ten years. I have tutored family members, as well as friends, and colleagues. I have also trained/tutored clients during my internship with the International Rescue Committee as well as Save the Children.

Long term, I plan to pursue my Ph.D. and to become a university professor. However, I would like to gain additional experience and confidence in my capability to explain and tutor any given topic to others. I enjoy helping others academically, as I believe studying and utilizing all educational resources are significant to prosper. Every individual has a different learning style, including myself, and I want to learn more about ways to help others based on their preferences.

I have various subjects I can cover, including English grammar, ESL, Algebra, Geometry, and K-12 education. As mentioned, I studied International Affairs and Policy, thus I can also tutor in subjects varying from Government, Political Science, International Relations, World History, as well as Geography.

I can also tutor Arabic to English and vice versa. Arabic is my native language, and during my graduate program, I was required to take coursework taught in Arabic which has tremendously exceeded my Arabic reading, writing, and speaking skills. I understand most Arabic dialectics as well as the formal Arabic language.

I am very flexible and willing to hear your learning style as well as barriers. I intend to draft out the primary goals and objectives upon our first few meetings. Prior to meeting, I would like a basic idea on the topics you would like covered, and at the end of every session we will discuss what needs improvement and what topics we should further explore.
I am willing to meet in person or online based on your convenience, to ensure all goals are being met, and we will work together towards improving and strengthening any obstacles.

Do not hesitate to contact me! I am looking forward to this experience and I am confident I will help meet all of your goals!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Arabic

Arabic is my native language, as I grew up in Lebanon and spoke it daily. After moving to the United States, I tutored Arabic speakers on various occasions. Most recently, I interned for the IRC where I tutored and translated for Arabic-speaking refugees, in order to help with their resettlement process. Additionally, my graduate coursework at the Middlebury Institute requires certain classes to be taken with a second language. I chose Arabic as my second language, thus I completed a significant amount of graduate level coursework in Arabic.
