About Jocelynn

I communicate in American Sign Language while working with Deaf and hard-of-hearing students in a classroom. I help students to build their vocabulary in American Sign Language and increase their knowledge of general education subjects such as math, science, and English. I also take special needs students into the community to prepare them become more independent in real world settings like shopping at a grocery store.

I have previous experience working in education as a tutor and paraeducator. I worked as a Level II American Sign Language Tutor for special needs students at a university. As a paraprofessional, I have worked with pre-K through elementary school aged children helping them to improve their skills in American Sign Language. I have also tutored college students in the areas of business ethics, marketing, and advertising.

I have an International Master of Business Administration degree and due to my academic performance, I was invited to become a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success; I have been a member since 2014. I also have my bachelor's degree in American Sign Language/Deaf Studies. I also have my associates degree in Spanish and Liberal Arts. In addition to my degrees, I have studied Spanish and German and have earned a college-level certifications in both languages. It's exciting and rewarding to be a tutor because I love to help people who want to gain a better understanding of a particular subject.

I have tutored college students in the subjects of Pre-Algebra, Basic Math, Spanish, and American Sign Language. I have also worked with pre-K and elementary-aged students teaching them to communicate in American Sign Language. I am hearing yet I have spent a lot of time being immersed in the Deaf community so I am not only aware of the language, I am also very knowledgeable of Deaf culture, history, and literature. During my studies in American Sign Language/Deaf Studies, I gave presentations on topics ranging from advocating for the Deaf community to explaining medical conditions in American Sign Language.

Additional American Sign Language experiences: Gave lectures in classes in American Sign Language; studied the differences between how the human brain processes spoken language and signed languages; studied the differences and similarities between the Deaf culture and community in the United States, Australia, and New Zealand (Maori and non-Maori).

In regards to my international business studies, I have extensively researched: Godiva and Hershey in regards to their cocoa supply and other raw materials, the business culture of many countries, international negotiations, organizational behavioral in a multicultural environment, business law, companies in different industries using NAICS and other classification codes, business ethics, and corporate social responsibility.

I am comfortable working with hard-of-hearing students because of my experiences being immersed in the Deaf community during my undergraduate years.

My schedule is very open. I look forward to helping you gain a better understanding of different subjects and having fun while doing it. I'm very patient and like to give high-fives or fist bumps throughout my lessons. Let's get started!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam.
