I have been teaching for over 30 years. I have a PhD in Instructional Science, which means I have learned how to help people learn. I was director of a private school for six years, and home schooled my own four children. I was a research associate at University of Oregon's Center for Advanced Technology in Education. In addition to the research, I did all the graphics and layout for our publications.
If you want an EXPERIENCED, kind and patient tutor, I am here for you.
I was a professional dancer before I went into teaching, and studied anatomy and kinesiology (the application of physics to the human body). I also was a costume and clothing designer in New York City, and learned woodworking from my sculptor father.
I love teaching, and I personalize every subject to fit your learning style, so that learning is easy for you when you are learning with me. I look forward to meeting you! Working with Photoshop - very patient and highly knowledgeable. Helped me accomplish exactly what I needed to do for my class assignment.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I learned Photoshop while I was a Research Associate in the Center for Advanced Technology in Education at University of Oregon, beginning in 1995. I have become highly skilled in using the program for processing pictures for publications associated with the University and with a Private school I directed for six years.
I am adept at using layers, all the tools, and understand the filters options, although I use special effects in a limited, tasteful way. I have layout and graphic arts training, and use Photoshop as one of my primary layout tools.
I am also interested in the potentials of Photoshop as a tool for creative expression. I was an art major (painting) for four of my six undergraduate years.
I taught Kinesiology for Dancers for 12 years at the university level. Kinesiology is the application of physics to human anatomy and physiology. My specialization was biomechanics, which is the analysis of mechanical physics as it applies to anatomy. I know my way around anatomy books, and am highly skilled in the musculoskeletal systems.
In addition, my PhD is in Instructional Science, which is the science of teaching, i.e., how to organize andoptimize subject matter for most effective delivery to a student.
I was an undergraduate art major for four years, and studied at Wheaton College, Art Institute of Chicago, San Jose State and UCLA, prior to changing my major to dance, where I got my degree two years later.
My step-mother was a professional artist, and we were trained at home in the style of George Bridgeman. I have used Nicolaides, Hogarth, and Edwards techniques for teaching drawing to my own children, and earned money for college as a commercial artist on a free-lance basis.
I was costume assistant to several professional dance companies in New York City. I designed and made wedding dresses and fashion statement clothing as a supplement to my income as a dancer.
I have taught costume design, pattern making and construction in theater production courses at the university level, and worked as an alterations specialist for David's Bridal. I can repair sewing machines, and was an upholsterer for a brief period of time in college.
