About Alexis

I am a current student at Northeastern University studying architecture. I have experience in many different topics, but my specialties are math and architecture related subjects. I have experience in being successful in high school, getting into college, and adjusting to college life. As someone who is in college now, I can provide tips and tricks to survive and prepare for college, as well as being a network in the future and someone to contact for help and guidance.

I am also knowledgeable in many sports, such as equestrian to softball, diverse topics and public speaking competitions.

I want to provide a fun learning environment with a safe space to learn. I was always the person people came to in school when they needed help in a subject, and I am always willing to help. If I don't know something, I will learn it through with you! I am easy going and want to help in anyway that I can. I think students who seek tutoring are determined and I genuinely respect that, and want to help them succeed. I want to help students figure out the way in which they learn, so that they can be successful and know how to go about learning new material. For me personally, I have to learn that knowing why or how something fits into the real world helps me learn better.

I have a deep understand of equations, and I think my knowledge can be helpful to people who are having trouble. I have taken three years of calculus, twice in high school and once in college, receiving high A's in all classes. I like to approach teaching calculus step by step, starting with the basics and going into the harder problems. I think knowing the foundation is the key to understanding how to solve a problem using logic and reason rather than just knowing how to solve certain problems. I like to relate problems to the real world to have a point of reference to help understand why things work. I have also found it useful to resort to theories to help drill the reason behind the calculus.

I have competed in many public speaking competitions and I know what it takes to be successful and confident. I have been a leader throughout high school and have conducted many meetings and banquets in front of hundred of people. I also gave a speech as valedictorian at my graduation. I also recently took a professional voice class at my university and would love to teach all the wonderful things that I learn, from how to use your voice correctly to how to speak with confidence. Teaching someone how to become a better speaker involves me learning about the student and talking about what they want to improve on and their goals.

I have been working in autocad a lot during university as an architecture student. I have spent many hours completing projects and I know how daunting this program can seem at first, so I lead a newbie into this software stress free. I can also provide samples of work done in auto cad. My methods of teaching autocad is to dive right into a project, starting out with something similar they going into harder projects. The best way to learn is to fully immerse the student into the software.

I am an architecture major and my experiences thus far can help prepare a beginner in the field of architecture. I can also provide sample projects that I have completed, which me and a student can work through together. I can also give detailed information about what it takes to be an architect and give advice. I have visited many architecture firms and I think I can be a great mentor to a student wanting to pursue architecture. I am someone who is going through architecture school and I can be a good buffer to someone young.

I want to provide a safe place to learn! I am qualified in many subjects, so don't be afraid to message me and ask! I would love to help out as many students as I can.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe Illustrator

I have been using Illustrator in my college level architecture classes this past year and have spent countless hours on this program. The best way to teach this program is to complete a project and jump in head first.

Algebra 1

I have complete algebra 1 in middle school and continued to build upon as I continued to go through math classes. Algebra one is a fun subject and should be taught accordingly. It is the foundation to being successful in later math courses. I want to teach algebra by starting with the basic formulas and theories, to make sure that the foundation is thoroughly understood.

Architecture

I have been in university studying architecture for a year. I have learned how to use many kinds of software, such as: AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and SketchUp. I have take architecture history, two studio classes, and an intro class. I know what it takes to be an architect, such as school and testing. I think it could be useful for students to try out situations that may arise in school. I can teach about the different types of drawings.

AutoCAD

I have been using AutoCAD extensively in my college level architecture classes. I have a great deal of knowledge about the tools and layout features in AutoCAD. I have completed many large scale drawings on AutoCAD that I can teach someone else how to do.

Differential Equations

I have taken three years of calculus, and focused a lot of differential equations. In school, I also helped my peers be successful in differential equations. My in-depth knowledge could help others be successful.

Elementary Math

Working with young students is fun, so teaching them should be just as fun in order to keep their attention. I approach teaching younger students in math by using visual aids and always keeping thing exciting and fresh for them. This is the foundation to their success in future math classes, and it is important that they know these basic skills well know to be successful later.

Microsoft Word

I have been using Microsoft for many years now and I can provide the foundation to be successful in this program.
