About Christina

Hi There!
I have a Masters Degree in Education and have taught for the past 15 years. I am a certified and credentialed teacher in California who teaches all types of learners. Trained in implementing the Common Core curriculum, developing growth mindset in children, developing study habits and organization, as well as, working with difficult behaviors. I hold a multiple subjects teaching credential, mild/moderate and moderate severe special education teaching credentials. I have extensive experience teaching students entering Kindergarten through exiting grade 6- including gifted students, general education students, and students with a variety learning disabilities, autism, ADD, ADHD, Tourettes, Dyslexia, etc...

I'm a recently divorced single mom of two little children (3 & 5 years of age) and am taking a year off from teaching in the public schools to focus in on being mom and spending more time with my children. I'm willing to travel to you or tutor out of my parents home where I currently live in Escondido. $60/hour, cost is on sliding scale for those whom struggle financially. Email, text, or call to set up an appointment. Initial meet and greet free!

Thank You & Many Blessings to you! Christina

Ahh! Don't we all love the Common Core Curriculum, especially in the area of math! It's time to start discovering the world of problem solving on your own without someone teaching you a direct way to do it! Extensive training in Cognitive Guided Instruction for the past 3 year, graciously provided by the previous high performing school district in which I worked, has brought to the forefront a new way to support students- that is you!- in discovery the magical world of mathematics in a way that makes sense to you!

Experienced as a Resource Specialist has enabled me to be successfully trained and provided years of opportunities to put into my practice several researched programs and practices in reading. Using the Daily 5, CAFE (Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency, and Expression), Nancy Fetzer Literacy Program, LindaMood Bell Literacy Programs, Read Naturally, amongst many others. This has enabled the students that I work with to achieve higher level reading skills, closing the gap and excelling beyond expectations.

My qualifications hold a key component in the implementation and success of the Common Core. As my teaching spanned across all grade levels, I had the fortunate ability to do what is called vertical teaming to break apart the essential common core standards to understand what is essential for each student to know prior to moving up to the next grade level. Over the past three years, much of my focus was spent on absorbing the common core standards and differentiating a variety of ways to present it in order for all students to be able to comprehend the concepts.

In past 15 years I have been involved in K-6 education, shifting back and forth from focusing on primary to upper grades. Working as a Resource Specialist, it has been my professional job to work closely with teachers in every grade level to

Again in reference to the reading qualifications, my experience and training in several beginning and emerging reading programs for students who are struggling has been my area of expertise to help in closing the gap between where they are and where they need to be. Training in LindaMoodBell Lips and Seeing Stars Programs.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Common Core

I have been trained in and taught the Common Core standards for the past four years as a Resource Specialist for a K-6 school at one of the highest performing school districts in all of southern California. Through our district provided common core curriculum training I was provided training in and implemented into my teaching Cognitive Guided Instruction in Mathematics for grade levels K-6 from 2011-2014. In addition, I was also provided training in and implemented lessons in Nancy Fetzer's Literacy Connections for K-6 grade levels. These trainings all led to certification and complete competency in teaching the common core curriculum as well as my master's degree in education, multiple subject's teaching credential, mild/moderate special education teaching credential, and moderate/severe special education teaching credential.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a Master's degree in Education and hold a valid Elementary K-6 Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential, and Special Education Teaching Credential for both Mild Moderate and Moderate Severe Disabilities. I have taught a wide range of grade levels from K-6th grade for the past 15 years and have humbly received many acknowledgements for my excellence in educating young minds, including teacher of the year. I have tutored students on and off throughout my teaching career.

Phonics

I have a master's degree in education as well as a current and clear elementary multiple subject teaching credential. I also have a specialization in teaching phonics through my mild/moderate and moderate/severe special education teaching credentials. I have taught for 15 years in K-6 elementary schools. I have specialized in teaching students to read in the primary grade levels for many years. I have co-taught Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade. Along with state approved grade level phonics curriculum, I am also trained in and have experience implementing and tutoring students in several specialized phonics programs such as Read Naturally, Lindamood-Bell Lips & Seeing Stars Program, Primary Phonics, Explode the Code, Lexia Reading Program, Spelling City, Starfall, Reading Mastery, etc. I conduct ongoing assessment of my students and am data driven to document progress and adjust methods of teaching to ensure the success of all students I work with.
