UC Berkeley (Integrative Biology)
My name is Leanne L. and I am a graduate of UC Berkeley with a degree in Integrative Biology. I also have a Master's Degree in Biology from CSUN. My experiences as a elementary and junior high school science teacher and tutor at a career college have afforded me the opportunity to interact with diverse student populations and engage them in learning. What I have discovered is that regardless the age of the student, if the subject matter is not presented in an interesting and engaging way, there is a negligible degree of learning that occurs. Math does not have to be laborious and mind-numbing! There are so many practical applications for it in everyday life that it is astounding! I understand that not all students are going to learn in the typical way and that sometimes one has to apply unorthodox solutions to break through that brain-barrier. I also understand that taking tests is just as much about HOW you take the test as WHAT you know. There are definitely strategies that can be applied that can significantly improve test scores. I am qualified to tutor in an array of subjects, such as: Biology, Algebra, Geometry, Anatomy and Physiology, Basic Math and Science. My goal is to make the student excited about learning, that’s when it stops being work!

Leanne worked very well with our 19 year old to pass the GED. We tried another tutor before selecting her and ended up unhappy after a single session. Leanne was doggedly determined to make sure this young man passed, even counseling us not to suggest that he could retake the math part because we were giving up to easily. He was very surprised when he saw his math score. It was much higher than he thought it would be. It was due to Leanne. Highly recommended by both us and the student! Flexible hours and easy to reach by text, phone and through Wyzant. A very active team player in helping the student realize his goal.
We went over Math problems. She made it easy to understand and had the patience and great tricks on how to do the problems I highly recommend her. Great humor as well she makes lessons fun!
Very patient and helpful with my daughter!
She worked hard to make my daughter feel comfortable. Very knowledgeable about the math she was struggling with. We really liked her.
Leanne helped my daughter with 9th grade physics while her regular special needs tutor was temporarily unavailable. . My daughter has attention and language processing issues. Leanne was able to break down the concepts and showed patience.
Leanne gave me great strategies for identifying and solving the kinds of math problems I'll find on the Teas test. She was patient and encouraging which helped me finally get a handle on a subject that is difficult for me. She really helped simplify the concepts. Our session was very productive and motivating.
Eric is showing such improvement in Math. He brought home a B on his test. He is showing a lot less stress over his math this year. So thank you again.
The first session went very well. She is patient and my daugghter and connected well with her. Looking forward to my daughter working with her this year!
She really helped with my bio exam (I wasn't doing that great). After having a few sessions with her I felt so much more comfortable taking my exam. She came prepared with various explanations, which helped me understand the material better
I was feeling incredibly overwhelmed by my Anatomy class so I decided to get some extra help. After poking around online for a bit, I found Leanne. Leanne is a great tutor - she really goes above and beyond to help you grasp the material based on your own personal learning style, and she keeps sessions engaging and interesting (I'm easily bored and have a short attention span so this is pretty important for me). I definitely recommend her for your tutoring needs, and I'm very happy to have found her!
Leanne not only helped my daughter with anatomy and an upcoming exam but she is also teaching her study and learning skills.
Leeanne is an amazing tutor! She knows the material well and will answer any questions you have regarding the material. I have been studying on my own recently and my scores have already improved greatly! I look forward to more sessions with her as well. I am surprisingly excited to take the TEAS again and better my last score.
Leanne is dedicated to helping her students. She goes above and beyond to ensure they succeed and feel confident in their subjects!
Leanne is very knowledgeable in her subject area and is capable of explaining complex problems in a manner that it comprehensible to the student.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I played soccer for around 10-11 years on AYSO and then for 3 years when I got to high school. Many of those years I was picked for the All-Star team and when I first got to high school in the 10th grade, I was able to make it on the Varsity team (which at the time, at Alemany High School, was no small feat). I have played in all the positions, so I possess a well rounded knowledge of the necessary skills/attributes needed for each member of the team.
When I was a tutor at Concorde Career College, much of my time was spent with students who were lacking in study skills. After spending about a year there, I put together a presentation that outlined the basic fundamentals when it came to studying, such as time management, consistency, and smart practices. I understand the critical need for students to demonstrate good study habits and how vital a role that will play in their academic success. There are little tips and tricks that also can be utilized to aid in the studying process that I have become privy to in my years of tutoring (bold-faced words, flash cards, how to take tests, etc.)
I practically knew how to swim before I could walk! I joined my first swim team when I was 5 and went to the junior Olympics when I was 15. I taught swimming at the YMCA and a small private school in the valley. I have been certified in Lifeguarding and WSI, although these are not current. I also participated in a triathlon when I was 16, which included an ocean swim. I was on the Varsity swim team all of my years in high school.
One of the most competitive programs at Concorde Career College was their Vocational Nursing program and there were many aspiring students that needed help in preparing for this exam. I was the tutor for these students, and have an understanding of what is required to pass the exam. The test consists of Reading, Mathematics, Science and English and Language Usage. I can say with some confidence that there were many students that would not have passed the exam without my assistance in strengthening their skills.
