I graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo cum laude with a degree in Biology, and a I earned a teaching credential from San Diego State. Seventh grade science was my first venture into the teaching realm. After a year of middle school, I decided that high school would be a better fit. I was correct. I taught at Fallbrook High School for the last 28 years and retired this past June. Advanced Placement Biology, Honor's Biology, and Human Anatomy and Physiology were my mainstays, although I also taught Earth Science and Agricultural Science. Earth Club Advisor and surfing coach were also part of my high school pathway, as well as Science Fair Advisor and judge.

My wife and I have been married for 24 years, and we have 4 children ages 21 to 14. Being in nature exploring the natural world is truly my passion. Surfing, fishing, and snorkeling are my favorite pastimes. As a family, we love to camp, and have traveled across the country in our RV four times. Teaching runs deep within my family as my wife, her parents, and my sister are all teachers. My wife is also a middle school counselor.

I am well versed in my subjects and employ hands on style teaching techniques and strategies through my lessons. I also enjoy problem solving and looking at science issues from novel perspectives.

Enthusiasm, a learn by doing approach, and deep subject understanding are my strenghts.....I would offer my best to help you in your academic endeavors.

Enthusiastic and thorough tutor

Alan was very helpful in breaking down the material so that it was easier to understand. He was great at giving realistic examples to make the material relatable. Alan was very easy to work with. I would recommend him to anyone!

Wonderful Teacher

My son desperately needed help with his AP Bio finals, and after 2 hours of instruction from Alan on the immune system, he sent me a text saying “Alan is such an amazing teacher!” With many years of teaching experience, Alan really knows how to connect with high school students and pass on his wealth of knowledge. We are so grateful for all his help!

Amazing!

Alan has a passion for education specifically Biology and an invested interest in his students. In a 5-10 minute conversation you will feel his genuine desire to help others and for his students to do well. His energy is exactly what students need (especially if they think Bio is boring). He brings materials needed to help assist the student in understanding. The simple use of a whiteboard goes a long way. My son said it was great to have someone know exactly what he was talking about and be present in the moment of the lesson. Students that desire to grasp a deeper understanding of all areas of Biology will definitely benefit meeting with Alan.
