In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
For the last two academic school years, I have implemented the common core standards into my curriculum for both 4th and 3rd grade. Being a professional educator, I have received appropriate training to adhere instruction to the new national standards. I have collaborated with other educators on how to best facilitate these changes to current curriculum as well as making instruction more meaningful. Being an professional elementary school teacher for the last ten years, with years more of experience tutoring, I truly believe I am qualified for any tutoring position.
In 2005, I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from University of Illinois at Chicago, with an endorsement in Language Arts. That following school year, I was hired to teach 7th grade English. For the remaining nine years of my career, I have been an elementary education teacher, teaching 4th grade for eight years, and 3rd grade this current year. A few years into my teaching, I received my Masters in Teaching with Best Practices from National University. Furthermore, nine of these ten years as an educator, I have taught summer school for various subjects such as: art, chess, math, and reading. I also spearheaded the startup of and taught at a private English School that provided English instruction for children over the summer.
