About Theresa

I am a dedicated teacher with more than 20 years of classroom experience teaching mathematics to students from ages 11 to 18. As an independent tutor, I help students understand key math concepts and effective problem-solving methods, while developing improved organization and study skills. As a result, students experience greater self-confidence and achieve higher test scores.

My students find that mathematics becomes less intimidating, once it begins to make sense – or even that math can be a fun and rewarding subject. They also begin to appreciate how powerful math skills can be, as a gateway to careers in many fields.

How I Work:
My strong points are patience and building confidence. I know how to break math problems down into simple steps. I can analyze what your son or daughter needs to succeed in math. I can tailor my lessons around your child's homework or upcoming tests, and stay synchronized. Your child's skills will be improved in a few sessions. I am organized, professional and friendly.

Background:
I completed my degree in Mathematics at UCLA, which was a very rigorous course of study. I have a life teaching credential, and a bilingual credential in Spanish. As a professional math teacher at several Los Angeles area high schools, I taught courses and coached students in basic math, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and precalculus.

Why Tutoring?

As an independent tutor, I love being able to apply all my training and experience in one-on-one sessions, where I can help each student with the kind of individual coaching that a classroom teacher cannot often provide. And I take pride in helping my students develop their skills, boost their scores, and feel more confident about math and learning.

Don't let your child get further behind, or fail to reach their full potential. Send me a message, or give me a call!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Tennis

I played varsity tennis at UCLA and Cal State Northridge. I played tournament tennis for 20 years and I have held rankings in my age group. I coached tennis at 2 different high schools for a total of 6 years. I have given private tennis lessons from time to time.

Lifesaver! — I was a senior attending CSUDH, and was in sight of graduation. However, graduation would not be happening if I didn't pass my pre-calculus class. I had a D in the class and needed at least a C to be eligible for graduation. In order to get my grade up I needed to pass the final with at least a B, with only 1 week to study. I found Theresa, and she was a god send. She helped me understand the mat ...
