About Douglas

In my senior year of undergraduate studies, I tutored full scholarship basketball players in statistics and cognitive psychology. The course material was a complex mix of math, science, biology, psychology, and physiology. I felt a rush when the guys passed. I also felt good around the process of teaching, especially finding ways to communicate sometimes highly complex material in ways understandable and comprehensible to the particular student. I also found out that I prefer a loose, friendly, and at times light-hearted approach to work.

I carried my sense of humor and tolerant attitudes through law school into practicing law specializing in civil litigation as a trial attorney. Trial attorneys are nothing if not teachers and educators of judges and jurors. More importantly, with the potential for stress that can accompany a career as a trial attorney, I embraced the attitude that success in life is a function of laughter, kindness, effecting change where and when we can, and acceptance when and where change is not within our control.

I played competitive and still play recreational soccer. I am just as likely to be at an All Time Low concert as a Springsteen show. My appreciation for music from newer and younger bands is due in no small part to my teenage daughter's passion for music. Yes, there bands that "Dad" cannot stand to listen to, but for the most part I will give any music a chance. I encourage individuality and to stand up for your own beliefs. I am a strong advocate for liberty and Constitutional rights. "I might not agree with what you say, but I will defend until the death your right to say it."

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Law

I graduated with highest honor from undergraduate school and with high honor from law school. I have tutored and instructed in some form for over 25 years. Past students have appreciated and noted my patience and ability to simplify complex matters.
