About Sohail

Hello
My name is Sohail. I have worked my way through school by first tutoring college students in all areas of math in a tutoring center environment and later on as a mathematics faculty in community college. I always get compliments on how good and effective my communication skills are and maybe that's because I always try to see the subjects I'm tutoring through my student's eyes, not my own. Currently I'm also a graduate student, working on my M.S. in statistics and being a student definitely helps to understand the struggles and challenges that other students face. I hope I can have the opportunity to simplify your challenges utilizing my teaching skills.

One of the techniques I utilize at the beginning of my first session with a new student is the knowledge assessment. I have had student in all ages and knowledge backgrounds so at first I start by asking a few simple, straight forward questions to find out about my student's knowledge and proficiency level of the material. I also like to see my student’s syllabus, text book, lecture note and I gear my instructions based on these. This way I make sure that my instructions compliments my student's prior knowledge and is in accordance with the curriculum designed for my student by his/her school.

The other rather simple but highly effective style that I follow is to highlight the related formulas and their corresponding values and also to mark the related terms and variables within the body of a problem with different color pencils so my students can see the mathematical relationship between the variables and their corresponding substitute values within the body of the problem with one glance.
These are some of the techniques that I have realized to be highly effective with my students throughout the years. Thank you for reading and I hope I can have the opportunity to simplify your challenges utilizing my teaching skills.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I'm a graduate student in statistics and have years of experience in tutoring and teaching in all levels of high school and college both as a tutor and faculty. I utilize several techniques with each and every students that I have. First I take an assessment to find out what are the specific problem areas with each and every student. The second step is to use visual aids, real life examples and practical applications of the concepts that the student needs help with. I like to ask questions from my students periodically to see how they are grasping what I'm teaching them. I also ask for their feedback as well as feed back from parents about their students and their their satisfaction with my method and the overall progress in the course.

Algebra 2

I have a Master's in Statistics and Bachelor's in engineering.

Differential Equations

I have worked my way through school by first tutoring college students in all areas of math in a tutoring center environment and later on as a mathematics faculty in community college. I always get compliments on how good and effective my communication skills are and maybe that's because I always try to see the subjects I'm tutoring through my student's eyes, not my own. Currently I'm also a graduate student, working on my M.S. in statistics and being a student definitely helps to understand the struggles and challenges that other students face. I have had A's in all my calculus and differential sensations courses during my undergraduate course of study. Also as a graduate student in statistics I get to work on a lot of theories that require differential equations as part of a skill set to prove theories and conduct analysis.
I hope I can have the opportunity to simplify your challenges utilizing my teaching skills.
