About Kevin

Hello All,

My name is Kevin. I am currently enrolled at San Diego State University pursuing my Bachelors degree in Political Science. I transferred from Southwestern College, with my AA, to San Diego State in May of 2015. That being said, I know the CCC and CSU/UC system very well. I am not exactly a stranger to the world of tutoring, but it has been some time since my days peer tutoring in high school. Furthermore, what I lack in tutoring experience, I make up for in enthusiasm with respect to my area of study. If you have trouble in the areas of Political Theory, Western Political Thought, Comparative Politics or International Relations, I find myself quite adequate and able to help in those areas. Myself, personally, am very comfortable in the academic setting and find it very rewarding helping others improve their understanding of Politics and Government. Politics is the OS and Government is the hardware!

With regards to proofreading, I have spent a significant portion of my last three years writing, correcting and peer reviewing academic papers (analytical, interpretive, and persuasive) concerning politics and government. With that being said I think I have the experience to help one improve their writing in these areas.

In my college career I have taken a multitude of political science courses: Ancient & Early-Modern Political thought, Politics of Europe, Comparative Politics, Politics of the Environment, International Relations, American Politics etc. I find myself strongest in the courses concerning political theory, but performed adequately in all other areas previously mentioned as well.

I made the dean's list every semester I attended Southwestern and am currently on the dean's list at San Diego State. I take my education very seriously and I could not imagine taking someone else education any less serious. If

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Government & Politics

I possess an Associate's Degree from an accredited California State Community College in the area of Political Science. In order to satisfy the requirements for the degree, one must take and pass courses in: California and American Politics, Basic Political Theory, Comparative Politics, International Relations, and lastly U.S. History. Furthermore I am in process of acquiring a BA from San Diego State University. My GPA (3.62) is above average for San Diego State in general and well above the average that is required for my major. Lastly, I have basic experience as an AVID peer tutor in my senior year of high school (2012).

Proofreading

I completed the, California State University Writing Placement Assessment (WPA), with the highest score possible on my first attempt. I spend a great deal of time reading, analyzing, and responding to classics in my political theory courses. Furthermore, I deal with dense legal theory and court case literature in my modern political science courses. Lastly, peer review is incorporated into several of my university courses, so I am actively proofreading my own and others' papers.
