After receiving my PhD in cell biology and anatomy from Northwestern University I moved, with my husband, to San Diego where I held post-doctoral positions at Scripps Green Research Facility and the La Jolla Cancer Research Foundation (now the Burnham Institute). With the birth of my son I soon realized that I could not juggle motherhood, and a research career (and a husband) and do any of them well. So I left research and became an adjunct instructor at the University of San Diego (USD).
For the next 18 years I taught atUSD, part-time (as well as teaching a few courses at San Diego State), while raising my son. I have taught general biology (lecture and lab), ecology, evolution and genetics as well as human biology and human histology. I enjoyed teaching very much, especially as the class sizes at USD were quite small and am now interested in continuing teaching but at a more personal one-on-one level, hence my interest in tutoring. I have had a lot of experience teaching "non-science" students while at USD, as well as tutoring and teaching students preparing for medical school. I have also spent a considerable amount of time teaching science to elementary school children, while my son was young.
My ultimate goal, no matter what age or level of student I am working with, is to make biology/science fun, interesting, and understandable! Studying Biology, especially today, is very exciting - it is a marvelous world from photosynthesis to cell respiration (not to mention stem cells and cloning, and forensics)! Hello,

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
