In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
For the past seven years I have worked as a College and Career Center Counselor and Administrator. During this time I worked to develop career paths for the students who did not take the college route. I scheduled and supervised many vocational school visits such as, automotive tech, marine tech, cosmetology, fashion design and culinary. I also worked closely with students who expressed interest in going straight to work after high school graduation. Internships and job shadowing opportunities were implemented to help assist these students in finding a great career opportunity.
For the past seven years I have worked as a College and Career Center Counselor and Administrator. My primary focus was working with college bound juniors and seniors. I have personally helped hundreds of students with all aspects of the college process: test prep, college application, scholarship applications, essays, resume, letters of recommendation and the FAFSA. I facilitated workshops to match students to potential colleges and careers. Working directly with college recruiters has given me invaluable information as to obtaining acceptance letters. My former high school principal and two school counselors have provided letters of recommendation punctuating my valuable contributions to our students.
Being in the high school arena, counseling teenagers on their futures takes public speaking to a sometimes frightening level! After seven years of giving auditorium presentations, classroom lectures and small group workshops, I have mastered the art of public speaking. My college professor taught me the basics and supplied speech practice in the safe atmosphere of an audience of my peers. The real world has provided me with an abundance of public speaking opportunities where there was little to no room for failure.
