I truly love education at every level and am passionate about helping students reach their individual potentials. As a graduate of Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California, I have experienced a diverse student body resulting in my enrichment of various students and perspectives. I use this knowledge along with 20 years of working within the public school system to connect with students at every level. Over the past seven years I have been the Supervisor of a high school College and Career Center where my staff and I counseled students on all aspects of the college and scholarship process.

My college preparation tutoring includes standardized test prep for the PSAT, ACT, and SAT. I specialize in the college admissions process including the application, essays, personal statement, resume, obtaining quality letters of recommendation and FAFSA application for financial aide. I assess each student as an individual and proceed with a college or career plan that is best suited for success.

Although lately my main focus has been the college bound high school student, my tutoring began with the elementary ages as a reading specialist. I utilize phonics, rhymes, site words and decoding practice to instill a strong foundation for the learning or improving reader. Reading is so important to a student’s future success and their confidence too! I am patient with and nurturing to all learners regardless of age or ability. In total, I have been helping students achieve since 1994.

I work diligently to get the most out of each student in every session. My style can be very collaborative with the student and parents, ensuring that you get what you pay for. I will never charge for a session where the student or the parent isn’t totally satisfied with my tutoring session.

I am very flexible when it comes to scheduling because tutoring is my priority! I have raised my children who are off to college and starting their own careers. I can work from your location, mine or a neutral site.

Thank you for considering me as a helping hand on the way to accomplishing your educational goals!

Career Development

For the past seven years I have worked as a College and Career Center Counselor and Administrator. During this time I worked to develop career paths for the students who did not take the college route. I scheduled and supervised many vocational school visits such as, automotive tech, marine tech, cosmetology, fashion design and culinary. I also worked closely with students who expressed interest in going straight to work after high school graduation. Internships and job shadowing opportunities were implemented to help assist these students in finding a great career opportunity.

Public Speaking

Being in the high school arena, counseling teenagers on their futures takes public speaking to a sometimes frightening level! After seven years of giving auditorium presentations, classroom lectures and small group workshops, I have mastered the art of public speaking. My college professor taught me the basics and supplied speech practice in the safe atmosphere of an audience of my peers. The real world has provided me with an abundance of public speaking opportunities where there was little to no room for failure.

College Counseling

For the past seven years I have worked as a College and Career Center Counselor and Administrator. My primary focus was working with college bound juniors and seniors. I have personally helped hundreds of students with all aspects of the college process: test prep, college application, scholarship applications, essays, resume, letters of recommendation and the FAFSA. I facilitated workshops to match students to potential colleges and careers. Working directly with college recruiters has given me invaluable information as to obtaining acceptance letters. My former high school principal and two school counselors have provided letters of recommendation punctuating my valuable contributions to our students.
