Westminster Theological Seminary, Escondido (Master's)
My friends and family know me to be a "born student" (that is, a student by nature). I have loved to study various subjects from my earliest years as a child, through my studies at Duke University. I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy, and my graduate studies, which led to a Master's degree and completed Ph.D. coursework. Currently, I happen to be at a place in my life where I have the opportunity to help other students on a one-on-one basis and I welcome this opportunity.
Over the years I have done a considerable amount of teaching and have proven to be a gifted teacher in a variety of settings, with exceptional communication skills, both verbally and in writing. I also love meeting and getting to know people, young and old, from all over the world. I am a gentle person by nature and I have an almost unlimited patience with students, though I am also capable of being firm so as to drive them to make progress when this is needed.
I believe that the most important thing that a tutor can do is to build confidence in the student that he or she has the ability to succeed in mastering course material. The next most important thing is to help the student to make an honest effort to reach this goal. A good tutor also helps the student learn how to do what all good students do: to understand clearly what teachers specifically want their students to learn and to prioritize and organize their efforts accordingly. If a student meets these three necessities, then he or she will actually become a lover of learning and will be able to succeed in almost any course of study and, indeed, in life in general.
As an older person (I am 52.), I have the benefit of years of accumulated knowledge, experience, wisdom and common-sense to pass on to students. And I am also a strong believer in the necessity of integrity both in myself and others. My friends and family know me to be a "born student" (that is, a student by nature). In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Masters of Divinity from Westminster Theological Seminary (California) and also completed Ph.D. coursework in Biblical Historical and Theological studies at Westminster Theological Seminary (Philadelphia), two of the most highly-regarded institutes for advanced Biblical study in the world. I have taught numerous classes and Bible studies over the past 25 years.

I also have a bachelors in Philosophy from Duke University. Both my undergraduate and graduate programs included study in both the history of religion and comparative religion.
Having been a highly successful student for 22 years (all the way up to completed Ph.D. coursework), I have developed excellent study skills which I can pass on to others. Being a good student mainly requires learning how to discern teacher expectations and priorities. It also requires prioritizing assignments properly. Finally, it requires that one not get side-tracked or bogged down on any particular task so that proper time can be devoted to all assignments.
