Hello...My name is Dan and I was a high school math teacher for the 19 years since graduating from Harvey Mudd College in Claremont with a B.S. in Engineering (Class of '92). I taught 4 years at the Webb Schools (private high school in Claremont 1992-1996), 3 years at School of the Arts in San Francisco, and 12 years at San Leandro High School (near Oakland). I have tutored on and off for 5 years while helping middle school, high school, college students and older adults learn everything from Algebra 1 to Precalculus to the GRE and CBEST math tests. I enjoy playing sports such as basketball, golf, tennis, softball...you name it. I especially enjoy watching a student learn...when the light bulb goes on and the expression on a student's face shows understanding. My style of teaching is to break a problem into smaller parts. I explain each of these smaller parts by teaching a lesson of a particular problem. I will check for understanding as I explain these smaller parts. I will then ask students to explain back the lesson to me. If they are able to do so, then I will have the student do a similar problem with different numbers. I am interested in students proving they have learned the material as opposed to just completing a problem. I am easy going, patient, and humorous while I teach/tutor. I cater the speed of the lesson according to the student's pace. I look forward to meeting you...
The Best Math Tutor In Town!!!
I was so thankful when Dan reached out to me to offer to tutor my son in August. I was so impressed with his over 20+ years of teaching Math that I had him tutoring my son since the beginning of the school year in August 2014. I've held off putting any comments to this date because I was observing what type of impact he has on my son. I've given him a 5 star-Excellent each time because I've seen how he was able to make each tutoring session a fun learning experience while teaching my son how to successfully analyze each math problem. But the most important lesson that Dan has taught my son is the confidence to deal with any math problem in class. My son has turned into getting F's into getting B+'s in his math tests - a superb achievement to teach a high functioning autistic child. Dan has turned him from a student who has constantly struggled in Math into someone who now enjoys Math. My son now finds himself teaching other classmates who are confused in Math like he was before - an experience which according to him 'makes him very happy!' My deepest gratitude to Dan for being the greatest tutor and teacher my son has ever had.Rowena, 68 lessons with Dan

He is a nice guy and friendly. He makes me feel comfortable while he was teaching me by smiling all the time. Also, he was explaining everything by giving a lot of examples. What I like about him that he gave me some tricks for my placement test. So, I recommend everyone of you to take session with him.Nawaf, 6 lessons with Dan
Excellent tutor, knows how to tutor and teach
Dan knows how to teach, how to lay down foundational concepts, model them, build upon them, and continue testing for them. People in need of tutoring usually struggle with the concepts of a particular area and require this reinforcing type of instruction.Jennifer, 13 lessons with Dan
Went Out of His Way
Dan went out of his way, on his own time and met with my junior son's high school junior teacher. He was able to see his last graded test and give my son feedback and guidance for going forward. This personal touch is much appreciated. He also briefed my son to show all work on next tests and participate in class. Dan is a great addition to our son's academic oversight/accountability parental emphasis.Charissa , 29 lessons with Dan
Articulate and engaging
He reviewed Algebra 2 with my son. He was clear and explained concepts well. He went over areas that students typically make mistakes on and explained ways to avoid these common mistakes.Nipun, 8 lessons with Dan

To whom it may concern, You can't go wrong if you hire Dan to tutor your child, period! Dan helped my daughter in Algebra 2, jump from an "F" to and "A" in one semester. He was just so comforting and patient, showing an example, then letting the student complete soon after. Dan also showed great care in getting to know my daughter's interest. He would laugh with her and cuddle the cats, just as caring as you would want. Let me just add, if it wasn't for Dan, my daughter would not have walked the stage at graduation. I am forever grateful for the hard work Dan put in with my daughter, thanks so much! Cheers, GregGreg, 25 lessons with Dan
Dan is a great tutor with great vibes. He makes tutoring fun, I enjoy his math tutoring more than math class in school. He's fast in teaching and patient when you just can't seem to get a lesson right the first try. I'm glad my first experience with a tutor was a great one.Patrina , 2 lessons with Dan
Dan is very patient and observant; he explains concepts very well, and is able to keep track of the areas you feel comfortable with and the one's you don't. I am very happy to have him as my tutor.Evelyn, 3 lessons with Dan
