The most satisfying aspect of tutoring is knowing that I play a large part in helping students succeed and better understand their focus of study. So many students today focus on specific details and miss the broader, overarching concepts that unify subject material-- and that's the difference between a 'C' student and an 'A' student. As a result, I strive to accomplish two things when working with students: understanding and application.

True understanding of material stems not from rote memorization of facts and data points, but instead from a holistic, discussion-based approach to topics of study. I approach material in a Socratic manner, encouraging frequent reflection on past knowledge and rumination on the consequences of that knowledge. Rather than focus on memorization, I focus on making sure students understand why and how things are the way they are; a lot of students simply stop at "that's just the way it is!" Nope. For example, when asked why warm-blooded animals can't be too small, a student may want to remember that as a rote fact. However, a deeper understanding incorporates surface area-to-volume ratio and the second law of thermodynamics, both of which are topics covered in biology prior to learning about endothermy.

On top of encouraging well-rounded, inquisition-based understanding, I stress the application of knowledge. Too many students become uninterested in academics because they do not see the immediate application of what they are learning.

I studied Biochemistry at UCLA, and I bring with me years of experience teaching the natural sciences in addition to biochemistry lab experience, which have provided me with a wide array of application situations that allow students to instantaneously understand the importance (and awesomeness!) of their studies.

I am available for last-minute reviews, study sessions, or long-term test prep.

From Algebra I students in middle school to Calculus students at university (and everywhere in between), I've helped students boost their grades and achieve a holistic understanding of math concepts. Math builds upon itself, and many students and teachers neglect this truth. Oddly enough, my calculus students are great at calculus concepts, but get lost in algebra along the way. I won't let you forget your fundamentals, and I provide a multitude of additional resources for reviewing old topics and assessing new ones.

I'm here to help you! If it's midnight before a big test, and you've got nowhere else to turn, I'm your guy. If you need help brushing up before your APs or SATs, I can help with that too. Whether you are struggling with math, science, reading, or writing, I've got you covered. For the past three years, I have worked with hundreds of students in southern California across the gamut of high school subjects and standardized tests (primarily ACT, SAT, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, and AP Calculus AB/BC). I provide practice material in addition to discussion-based and traditional lectures. I encourage students to come to me prepared with questions, and I prefer to work in-person. I am available, depending on the amount of notice given, to meet in a public setting (e.g. coffee shop, library, etc.) on weekdays. In addition, I am available on weekday evenings and weekend mornings over the internet.

I am open to tutoring individuals of all ages, but I will caution potential students that I am most comfortable tutoring high school students, as 95% of my past students have been of high school age.

Send me a message and let's get you where you need to be! I'm confident that I bring the experience and knowledge that you need to succeed.
