Welcome Parents and students!
My name is Joy. I have been working with children on the Autism Spectrum and Special Needs Community for seven years as a behavior therapist and tutor. As a therapist, I saw so many bright children who just needed to be taught outside of the box new and special ways to learn. That may mean making math a game by using fun manipulatives, singing our spelling words, or making reading comprehension an adventure. I know each child is so unique and so are the ways their brain processes information, so I will tailor the lesson to their specific needs.
I have extensive experience in applied behavior analysis. I am certified by the Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) e-learning program as a Behavior Therapist. I am experienced in the following: sensory integration, sensory processing disorder, Down Syndrome, learning disabilities, ADD/ADHD, self-injurious behaviors, and school shadowing.
I am currently working on my Special Needs Credential at Cal State University Fullerton and a masters of education so I can teach these amazing kids! Welcome Parents and students!

My son was diagnosed with Auditory processing disorder. Joy has been working with my son for the last few months. He and I are very happy with Joy. He has shown improvement at home and in school. She's a kind and patient Tutor!! We appreciate her very much!!
Joy is a wonderful person and in most situations is probably a great help as a tutor for most kids. We hired her for our son who has Autism as she mentioned she had experience working with Autistic kids. After several lessons, while we did see some progress made it was clear that she is not well equipped or experienced for the challenges presented by children with Autism. We are very appreciative of Joy and the effort she put in working with our Son, and for kids without disabilities we would definitely recommend her but for Kids with Autism and other disabilities we would recommend finding someone better prepared with better experience to deal with the challenges and complexity of working with Autistic kids.
I am sorry that I could not be of better service to this family. Unfortunately, I am only a tutor and I no longer provide Applied Behavior Analysis Services. I was hired to help soely with educational matters not behavioral. In the past and currently I have had several families that are very happy with my work and the progress I have made with their children with Autism. Again, I am sorry things did not work out. I wish them well.
Excellent first day with joy! Joy gave me a lot of insight on what to help Felix with going forward and really made Felix feel good about his session . Really looking forward to many more sessions to help Felix grow and get better.
Joy is amazing. Within one week of lessons my grandchild has blossomed. After first week of kindergarten, realized he was far behind class level. Week 2 of kindergarten he began work with Joy. She is very patient, provides precise analysis on his weak areas and has the correct materials and creative approach to work effectively in developing his skills. She establishes rapport quickly, gives him positive feedback, creates a fun learning experience to maintain his focus during the full hour (quite an accomplishment since he is easily distracted). We were amazed & delighted to see his progress after a few sessions...gain in confidence, his desire to learn. He independently went to workbooks she left for home practice and completed on his own the entire workbook!!
Joy has been very patient and knowledgeable about teaching to my son's needs. She incorporates teaching tools that help him relate and learn. She provides me insightful feedback after each tutoring session. I as well as my son are very happy with Joy and look forward to continued progress ahead.
First session so it's a bit early to write a full review. I expect that things will continue to go well.
I can see an improvement in Carl already. He is using words more appropriately and his writing skills are markedly improved.
She evaluated the girls and expressed an opinion to be respected. on her suggestion I will contact
her to ask if she will be able to give the girls 1 hour each.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a bachelor's degree in cognitive science from UC Irvine. I studied developmental disorders, such as Aspergers. During my summers I volunteered at a summer camp for children with Aspergers. I was able to see how truly bright and wonderful these children are. Unfortunately life is not without roadblocks. After being an ABA therapist with agencies like the Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) for nearly seven years, I have learned strategies that help children with these roadblocks learn. I am highly experienced working with children on the spectrum. When it comes to homework I know how to help your child comprehend material. I will make learning fun and stress free.
I have a bachelors degree in cognitive science from UC Irvine. My studies focused on developmental disorders such as Aspergers and Autism. After college, I spent the next seven years working for agencies such as The Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) where I had the opportunity to learn and grow in my knowledge of Autism working with children on the spectrum. I learned that each child is so unique and so is the way Autism touches them. I will tailor lessons to your child’s specific needs while having fun.
I have tutored children in reading, phonics, and reading comprehension for nearly a decade. I have worked with beginning readers that are just learning to read and older children that maybe having difficulty for one reason or another. I have also tutored children with learning disabilities and helped them reach their full potential as a young reader.
I spent two years working as an Applied Skills in-home therapist for children with special needs. That gave me the unique opportunity to teach differently able children strategies to go through their daily routines. It was not easy to overcome what looked like simple daily obstacles. The same is true in their schoolwork.
I will teach your children ways to learn that are unique to them. I want to help them overcome their specific challenge and target their needs. I believe every child is special, your child may need a little extra attention and that is what I am here for!
I am fun and patient and will make every lesson a positive experience. I have experience privately tutoring children with Down Syndrome, ADD/ADHD, and children on the Autism spectrum.
