Bio

Being the first in my family to go to college, the environment was new, and I did not know how to navigate through the campus social climate and rigorous academics. My grades suffered, and I considered to drop out. My support network, however, convinced me to stay. I persevered and completed a major in Engineering with a dual minor in Math and in Afro-American and African Studies.

I wanted other students to have a better college experience than I had, so I became a high school math teacher and taught for five years. My students were labeled “at-risk” because they had learning challenges. To overcome those challenges, I engaged them with hands-on activities that applied the math and science concepts to real world problems. I also gave them experiences I did not have: learning computer programming prior to college and competing in STEM competitions. My teaching led to my earning of a M.Ed.

Currently, I am pursuing a Ph.D. in atmospheric science and have taught more than five courses that have cemented my desire to become a professor. I want to help the community move forward. In order to do so, my knowledge and experience must be shared. Whether you are a k-12 or college student, an adult returning to school, or wanting to learn something new, know that success is not linear, and I would be happy to join your support network to help you succeed.
