Bio

Experienced tutor in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, algebra and saxophone.
Since 2015, I have tutored students how to think critically.
For students, school can be tedious. Fun learning is active learning, an approach I get way behind -- and the successful student learns to motivate.

Since 2015, I have tutored students how to think critically.
For students, school can be tedious. Fun learning is active learning, an approach I get way behind -- and the successful student learns to motivate.

When I'm not tutoring, I am usually found rock climbing or playing the saxophone, rehearsing for a performance with my band. I also devote my time to Camp Kesem at UC Davis, and organization which serves the needs of kids whose parents have been affected by cancer.

I use algebra on a daily basis in the laboratory, in managing my band's expenses, and in data analysis.

Math is widely regarded as boring. It sure can be. But I think its fun relies on its usefulness: and useful it is.
Math is a building block that allows the student to ask more complex questions, and solve them. And that's exciting!

One thing I've learned in university is that all the sciences are fundamentally similar.
I help students to piece the big picture together, to show WHY chemistry is important (and cool), why biology is complex and beautiful, and how learning physics can change the way you see the world.

Having transferred from community college, graduated from UC Davis, and gained nearly a year of research experience (in cancer and metabolomics) I know how to ask the right questions and point out the right answers,

In the music world, I work with students to develop good technique and fundamentals around pitch and rhythm-- the bread and butter for a successful musician. Included is music theory, interval training, and practice to keep time. Centered around exercises tailored to each student (and instrument), I also work towards playing what the student wants to play, because that's what music is all about.

I can teach elementary through high school saxophonists and beginner drummers.

About me: I play lead alto saxophone for a jazz combo at UC Davis, as well as rehearsing and performing with my own funk/ soul/ R&B project. I'm heavily influenced by big band, jazz, and salsa music, and frequently work with drummers and other musicians in the area to record, perform and compose. I played in jazz bands and drumline while in high school, and continue to practice on my own.

Can't wait to get smart and get better with you!

A great fit & smart guy!

Caleb is tutoring my son in biology and organic chemistry at UC Davis. Convincing my son to get a tutor was next to impossible. I read Caleb’s bio and not only did he study all the same subjects at UCD but he is making my son comfortable with having a tutor. Happy mom. Happy son!
