'Hello. I am a Bay Area native, and got my Bachelor's Degree in Social Welfare from Chico State University. Social Welfare should tell you that I am a compassionate person who wants others to succeed. I have classroom experience at the Middle School and High School levels, and have also taught software classes to corporate adults.
Like you, I have a wide-range of interests outside of academics. Mine include: photography, backpacking and camping, baseball and collecting, playing guitar, playing jazz saxophone, and singing. I try to eat healthy, and stay in good shape. I believe in a balanced life, which - at least for me - enables me to really focus on academic studies when it is demanded. I love seeing lightbulbs going off in students, and to see the empowerment that results. I believe I am a good nurturer of that success and would like to help provide that to you.
I am a Bay Area native, and recently graduated from Chico State University - with Honors - with a Master's degree in Political Science. To graduate with Honors, I achieved a 3.9+ grade point average in the graduate program, and excelled in Comprehensive Exams. I am an excellent writer and can teach you tips and tricks to being a good researcher and writer. I am a buff of Civil War history and 20th Century history - especially World War II and the Cold War. I am well versed in our Government Institutions and would love to help you understand our Political system (even as it seems to seek to confuse us.)
I am a very good, natural teacher, and want you to succeed!
I can be reached by email or phone and will look forward to working with you! 'Hello. I am a Bay Area native, and got my Bachelor's Degree in Social Welfare from Chico State University. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I worked for nearly 6 years with the San Mateo County Probation Department in the juvenile hall and Glenwood Boys Ranch. At one time I was a grade III (3) supervisor and served as Detention Control Officer during nights the Senior had his days off. Most of my work was as a counselor (Group Supervisor) in Hillcrest Juvenile Hal, and as a Section Counselor at the Boys Ranch - intimately involved with the Behavior Modification Program we had in place and setting up Treatment Plans within that.
I served as an intake officer at the Hall, coached softball, supervised court waiting, appeared in court, processed incoming detainees, and again - as Detention Control Officer, worked with police and sheriff's officers in determining the health & fitness of their arrestee.
I also worked in a number of Group Home programs - good ones and bad ones.
My emphasis in my Social Welfare degree at Chico State was Corrections.
I have a Master's in Political Science - with Honors. I did research on The Supreme Court, Fox News, Political Neuroscience, the link between a nation's treatment of women and their GDP, the link between high levels of "religiosity" in a state, and lower high school graduation rates, an in-depth review and analysis of the book, "Winner-Take-All Politics", analysis of the book "Lone Survivor", analysis of the Constitution and Declaration of Independence, as well as Political thought and philosophy.
