University of California, Davis (PhD)
Greetings! I am a graduate of the University of California, Davis Biochemistry and Molecular Biology doctoral program. I taught both undergraduate and graduate courses at UC Davis as a teacher’s assistant for eight quarters – approximately two years – including introductory chemistry and biology classes and upper division biochemistry. My research has been published the journals Biochemistry, Cell Host & Microbe, Molecular and Cellular Biology and Current Protocols in Chemical Biology and I am a member of the Phi Sigma Biological Sciences Honors Society, Gamma Delta chapter. I completed a two year postdoctoral scholar appointment at the University of California, San Francisco from 2014 to 2016.
I specialize in biology, particularly molecular biology and biochemistry. I have spent most of my professional and academic careers working in life science laboratories, teaching or studying. I also have an advanced understanding of chemistry and can tutor for AP Chemistry or introductory college chemistry. I strive to prepare college-bound students for the rigors of undergraduate life, helping them develop good study habits and introducing them to resources that will aid their learning process. I am quite familiar with introductory and intermediate undergraduate biology and chemistry courses at UC Davis having both taken them as a student and taught them as a TA.
I generally require that lessons be scheduled at least 48 hours ahead of time. Prior to a session, please send me a brief overview of what you are studying and/or what you would like to focus on (e.g. nucleosomes, protein structure, glycolysis). I only tutor within Davis, California on the weekends as I also have a full-time job. That said I would be willing to travel to outlying towns - Woodland, Dixon and Winters - at $45.00/hr to cover travel expenses. Please message me the details. Greetings! My daughter is an AP Student heading off to college in the fall. She has 3 AP classes in her final semester in high school. She is taking AP Biology and needed help. After the 1st meeting with Tristan she is feeling very confident his tutoring will help her tremendously. He has provided a roadmap on what she needs to focus on, and what she doesn't need to focus on, to be successful in this class. Tristan is very nice, polite, intelligent, and we can tell he really wants to help our daughter. He is organized and does not apply pressure but rather nudges the student to learn the way the student learns. We would recommend Tristan to every parent looking to find the perfect science tutor for their child.
Tristan has not only been a great tutor for my two. Sons, he has also been extremely flexible with last minute requests and schedule changes. Thanks Tristan!
Tristan is very patient and he explained the concepts carefully. Also, he had planned lessons for my son because I told him what needed to be covered. He is a great tutor and I plan to continue with him through the year.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a B.S. and Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from UC Davis. I have worked as teaching assistant for college-level biochemistry courses - both laboratory and lecture - and have published papers in ACS Biochemistry and Current Protocols in Chemical Biology.
I have a B.S. and Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I have an intense interest in the biological sciences and have worked as teaching assistant for college-level introductory biology courses. I have also privately tutored college-level biology in the past.
I have a B.S. and Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from UC Davis. I have worked as teaching assistant for college-level introductory chemical courses - supervising laboratory sessions, holding office hours and discussion sections, and grading papers - multiple times. In addition, I regularly used basic chemical calculations (i.e. molarity, pH determination) when working in lab as a graduate student.
