Bio

Hi,

My name is Chris and I'm a happily employed mechanical engineer in Concord. I've tutored much in the past at Sylvan learning center for the past five years, but recently moved to a new area and wanted to teach more and closer to home.
I'm always happy to teach, something my mom instilled into me, and would love the chance to share my gift with people in my area!

As an engineer, math has become a second language to me. I tutored in college to help my peers with physics and math, and at Sylvan taught subjects ranging from counting to calculus. I use it all the time to figure out better ways to make new parts, organize schedules, and create huge excel formulas.
In my spare time, I enjoy challenging myself through competitions in ping pong, chess, poker and other games. Please let me know if you or your child would be interested in being taught by me! I was always a favorite tutor among my Sylvan students for my humor and ability to teach.

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I've been a tutor for 5+ years and a mechanical engineer for almost 9. Many of my students were in the algebra to calculus range. That range of math in particular uses a great deal of algebra and many of my students were missing the algebraic fundamentals to succeed. I'm passionate about math and teaching and would love to help whomever with getting better with the concepts of algebra 1.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I've been a mechanical engineer for 8 years and math is a second language to me. I've been tutoring math (ALG II included) for 5 years as well at Sylvan Learning Center. I have a passion for math and teaching, and doing it in my spare time is something I really enjoy.
Chess

Chess

I've been playing chess since I was a boy. Chess club in high school, played almost every day in college and now with roommmates at least once a week. I love the game, and can instill that passion into others while teaching them the complexities of the game.
Drawing

Drawing

I love to draw and sketch, and have since I was a kid. My artwork is precise and technical, typically with a fine graphite pencil and I've won several artistic contests over time.
General Computer

General Computer

I'm an engineer in the mechanical engineering field and use excel/word/PDF/PowerPoint daily for the last 8 years. Also I've been using computers and computer games in my spare time since I was still in grade school.
Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Excel

I work in both Microsoft Excel and Google sheets as an engineer to prepare studies and present data to both technical and non-technical customers. I have experience using VBA and creating solutions to data manipulation to save time and effort.
Poker

Poker

I played many tournaments at the casinos in Vegas, online, and all over California. Approximate 30% win/place in the money for tournaments played and good at teaching (taught a player that went on to win a 20-man tournament of seasoned players in the same night).
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I've taught everything from counting to calculus over the last 5+ years, and I love math! I get excited about it and try to get my students excited about it too. As an engineer, prealgebra (and other math) are useful in my job as an engineer, but I also use it in my day to day. I try to use real life examples during tutoring to make math relevant to the student.
Table Tennis

Table Tennis

I have eight years of experience learning how to spin, attack, probe weaknesses and defeat opponents. Love playing the game and winner of multiple tournaments in the area and while on vacation.
