I live in Danville and work in San Ramon as the Director of Marketing for a software company. With the holidays off, I have plenty of free time and would love to work with you or your child to improve subject comprehension, help build confidence, improve test scores, increase class participation and overall GPA.

I'm also experienced in working with students on solo writing projects, admissions papers and assigned essays.

English is built on the ability to succeed in spelling, reading comprehension, writing and grammar. This will set the foundation for almost every subject (especially when you reach the high school and college level).

I'm proficient in AP and Oxford style guides. I love to read, write and analyze complex topics.

With a double minor in Political Science and International Relations, I am highly qualified to work with students of all ages in Social Studies, History, Geography, American Government, World History, Political Science, Criminal Justice and International Relations.

I graduated from Northgate High School (Walnut Creek) in 2006. I finished with a 3.5 GPA and scored in the top 5 percent on my SAT. I love working with children.

I volunteer at least 10 hours a week to provide childcare for my nephew and volunteer for the HOPE Foundation helping homeless and Foster children.

Lastly, I want to mention that I have volunteered at multiple schools through the MDUSD (Mount Diablo Unified School District). This requires fingerprints and background checks. This is something I love to do.

I have afternoons free and flexible weekends. Through January 2016, I have a very flexible schedule due to time off for the holidays. I live in Danville and would prefer to stay in a 15 mile radius.

Kind Regards,
Chelsea

Grammar

Grammar

I have my degree in Journalism with a double minor in Political Science and International Relations. Journalism requires outstanding grammar and knowledge of AP, Oxford and multiple (less popular) style guides. I'm currently the Director of Marketing for a software company in San Ramon. I've spent the last decade working for PR firms and marketing agencies where I am responsible for writing all website content, ghost writing executive opinion articles, case studies, editing blogs and marketing materials. Nothing goes to print unless I have edited it. I'm responsible for copy editing, grammar, spelling, messaging and brevity. Less is more in most cases. Even when there is a required word count, it's my job to keep the reader engaged and the content on topic. My goal with most of my writing students is to teach them to comprehend grammar, use it correctly and avoid the most common mistakes that quickly become ingrained into their writing. Every subject will struggle if your child struggles with writing. Journalism is 75 percent grammar and spelling. In college I received excellent grades in this area and I am currently working on my MA in English at UC Berkeley. GPA *I graduated in 2006 - Upper grad courses GPA = 3.75 - Overall average GPA = 3.25 - High school GPA = 3.5

I have more than 400 hours of documented time spent volunteering at elementary schools and middle schools through the Mount Diablo Unified School District and Walnut Creek Intermediate. My time volunteering was dedicated to working with students struggling to read or comprehend and analyze the content. I also focus on building student confidence for out loud and in class reading. In addition, I have my masters from UC Berkeley in English Literature where the majority of my courses required reading and analytical thinking.

History

American History,

American History

I have more than five years of documented tutoring and after school volunteering at Mount Diablo Unified School District where I worked with students of all ages to think analytically and prepare for American History exams, group projects, essays, and finals. In college I received 24 credits required to complete my degree in history and government classes - Courses primarily focused on US history when I was working on my Political Science and US Foreign Policy minor. I excelled in American History, World Geography, Government, and Economics while in high school at Northgate in Walnut Creek, CA. My major was originally American History until I switched it to Journalism after two years.
Political Science,

Political Science

I graduated from California State University, Chico with a BA in Journalism and a double minor. One of my minors was Political Science where I received a 3.5 GPA in my PoliSci classes alone. My second minor was International Relations where I received a 3.3 GPA and studied the global relations and how different forms of government have shaped our current state of relationship with states abroad, every war the United States has been involved in, how America has been defined as an isolationist state to a state providing financial, fiscal and military resources to other countries. I received an A in American Studies while in high school. I have taken plenty of geography classes and can help any student understand the political terrain and how different religions became to fight wars over the last 2000 years. Although I did once, I have no strict party affiliation and no political agenda making me an incredibly well educated political science teacher with no underlying agenda (this is a very rare quality to find).
Social Studies

Social Studies

The last 10 years I volunteered as an after school tutor for The Mount Diablo Unified School District (MDUSD), specifically at Pleasant Hill Middle School. One of the most common subjects students needed help with was Social Studies. With one of my college minors being International Relations, I proved to be an excellent resource for students at every level in regards to historical events that shaped both the United States, and the surrounding important events that changed the world. This includes geography and the many wars that have both destroyed countries and made them allies. This also includes major declarations, presidential legacies, dates in history we should all know, Acts (such as the Loan/Lease Act) - And why they became legislation and how they help America and other countries fight for democracy. I received excellent grades (nothing below a B) in college courses like Women in Politics (covering the struggles that led to constitutional amendments such as the ERA), the Civil Rights Movement and Economic Change (covering the major moments leading up to civil rights, huge upsets and assassinations surrounding the movement, and how it changed our economy). I'm knowledgeable on the wars abroad and fought here at home (Gettysburg, Boston Tea Party, the Indian wars, D Day, Pearl Harbor and Hiroshima). I consider myself an expert on both WWI and WWII - As well as the framing of the constitution. I double minored in International Relations and Political Science making me incredibly well versed in the constitution and the amendments that followed. How each branch of government was designed to work including the process of a Bill becoming a law, the electoral college and terms for congressional and executive branch members. I love social studies and have a strong education to prove how far my knowledge spans in every topic related to it.
