I am an experienced educator with both an Education Specialist (special education) and Multiple Subject teaching credential with a Subject Matter Authorization in English.
I specialize in English Literature, writing, grammar, and proofreading. I have extensive experience teaching in the area of special education and I am skilled at meeting the needs of students who are on a wide spectrum cognitively, academically, and behaviorally. I am currently employed as a teacher and would be available to tutor in the evenings. I believe educating individuals is a team effort and I value open communication between students, parents, and teachers for the purpose of ensuring success.
English, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and proofreading are where my strengths lie. I'm that annoying person who unashamedly corrects peoples grammar and I cringe when I see people spell "a lot" as "alot." I enjoy the process of writing, from original outlines to final editing, and I believe I can make the process enjoyable, even for those who get anxiety at the mere thought of writing a paper.
I have extensive training and experience in working with Special Needs students. I have worked with students of all ages, with a variety of challenges, including ADHD, Autism, Emotional Disturbance, and Intellectual Disability. I am skilled at utilizing evidence-based behavior management techniques and differentiating instruction to meet the needs of individual learners. I currently teach a middle school special education class and I am comfortable with the specific challenges these students bring to their academic table.
If you feel like an outsider because you're struggling in school, if you have emotional, behavioral, or cognitive challenges, if you simply just don't like school, I'm the tutor for you. I'm down to earth and very motivating. I truly believe that small successes are a often a bigger deal than big ones and they should ALL be celebrated.
