I am a graduate professional engineer fresh from twenty years of military service and another twenty in industry. Math has always been my favorite subject and I have often been asked to explain it to others.
My tutoring approach begins with finding common ground with my client. We agree on what we both understand about the matter at hand. We take the time necessary to discuss the definitions of the terms we use and the principles of the subject area in which we're working. We work together through as many specific questions and problems as necessary to make the client comfortable enough to work without me. The best tutor is the one who works to make his help unnecessary.
I am patient, engaging and friendly. If a given approach does not result in success, then I will try another and yet another so that understanding is achieved. My job isn't done until the client understands the material. Whatever it takes. I am a graduate professional engineer fresh from twenty years of military service and another twenty in industry. We couldn't be happier with our experience with Doug T. He was very accommodating to our schedule, confirmed appointments each week and was easy to schedule with. His style with my 18 year old son was very good. My son did NOT want a tutor, but was failing his second semester of math and risking his college admission. We contacted Doug to help him. Doug's demeanor was great with our son. He made him feel comfortable and made sure my son understood each lesson before he left. The very best part is that my son's grade went from an F to a B and he is off to the college he chose! Thank you Doug. We owe you a debt we cannot possibly repay~ The proof is in the pudding, as they say. Doug is an excellent tutor and I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone!
Doug showed up on time, is friendly, patient and knowledgeable. Also very optimistic! I didn't do an adequate job of figuring out exactly what I DIDN'T know before meeting with him, which is why I would give the lesson a 4/5 stars- the quality of the tutor is top-notch.
Douglas was extremely effective with my son. My son was very discouraged prior to his session with Doug, but after he felt very confident in his knowledge. Doug was patient and really connected with my son. I highly recommend this tutor to anyone struggling in Alegra 1. In one session, he renewed my son's passion for math.
Doug was very easy to contact and schedule an initial time. He was able to meet with my son the same day I contacted him. My son needs tutoring in precalculus honors, and Doug reviewed a chapter with him. He was attentive to my son's understanding of the material. He has a nice, easy-going personality.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I'm a professional engineer and am well schooled in algebra 1. It's one of my very favorite subjects and I enjoy helping others to get comfortable with it.
I'm a professional engineer and am well schooled in algebra 2. I tutor by establishing a rapport with the student and then by quickly zeroing-in the issues and moving forward from there.
I am a graduate professional engineer and have taken course work on differential equations and other math and engineering courses which required that knowledge as a basis for understanding the material.
I am a good teacher and if I can help students to make use of this very valuable math tool then it's certainly something that I want to do.
